so while members of our BP offered us a small apartment in their house to live in after the wedding. they are now asking that we pay a certain amount--and well i have no problem paying my way.....BUT the apartment is smaller than a freaking efficiency...and they are asking for like $900!!! that is OUTRAGEOUS! the place is barely 400 sq ft. (and i'm being generous)
so now FH and i have to start apt. hunting. and i'm just hating this so much. ugh...i hate this process!!

Re: SWR: Apartment hunting suuuuucks!
My FH Pete and I live in an apartment complex in Ronkonkoma (exit 59) and we pay $1,200 plus elec and cable. We do not pay for heat or water. I love love love our complex! We have a tennis court, pool, gym, like 5 laundry facilities on the premises, and a lake that you can actually fish out of haha! We live in the 'delux' one bedroom and pay around $1,200 but they do have smaller one bedrooms and even studios for even cheaper. Check out this site www.heatherwoodcommunities.com. They have apartment complexes all over the island but mostly in Suffolk and there are some complexes that are even cheaper than ours. Click around the site, you can see how much square footage each apt has and how much it costs. Hope that helps! Oh and we just got a puppy, a miniature pinscher...our place allows pets under 30lbs! Good luck! FM me if you need anymore info

Re: SWR: Apartment hunting suuuuucks!
i know this sounds crazy.. but i went through the same thing. i had other time restraints though for various reasons so i broke down and went through real estate. Yes i know girls it ***** and is prolly not the smartest choice but she showed us what we could afford and i fell in love with this wonderful apt. 1 bedroom 2 floors. and i pay 1200 all included and its huge. i can fit a table that seats 6 in kitchen. fh has a Sports room and we have a large living room that contains pull out couch and love seat recliners recliner and 62' tv. just to paint a picture on the size we got for spending the extra real estate fee. plus we have huge bedroom. its an only onetime fee to realestate. town is bellmore. just to give you some encouragement.. there is a dream home for you out there.

Sugar-I think you did the right thing, real estate agents can help you get great deals. I bought an apartment about 2 years ago, seriously its amazing the deal i got on it. The people had already bought a house in florida and moved their kids there who started school there too. Basically they needed to sell this apartment right away and our real estate agent was able to get them to sell it for a very low price. Last year, which was only one year of us having the apartment its worth $180,000 more than what we paid for it, so thats pretty good obviously. And its also a big apartment, 2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, big kitchen, nice sized dining room, big living room, ALOT of closet space.

Re: SWR: Apartment hunting suuuuucks!
good luck! I know how frustrating that is... does hofstra have an off-campus housing office?
It will be hard to find an apartment in your pricerange, mainly becuase most apts in houses are pet-free zones. But, it isn't impossible....
Just keep it up, and you'll find something!

this is why i love this site.
Okay here's the deal...my FH and i are hoping to spend no more than $1200 for an apartment. (if utilitiets are included that's even better). we'd prefer a 1 bdrm...and love a 2 bdrm., but will consider a studio if we can't find anything.
As for areas--we both live in Western Suffolk now---the furthest out east I think we'd consider is like the Ronkonkoma area (nothing past Exit 59 off the LIE--my FH has to commute to queens 5 days a week!) and we'd like to try and stay in eastern to mid nassau.
so any towns in that area would be great...examples: Bay Shore, Islip, West & East Islip, Farmingdale, Melville, Deer Park, Dix Hills, Bohemia, Commack, Huntington, Lake Grove, Ronkonkoma, St. James, Lindenhurst, Babylon, Bellmore, Merrick ,Massapequa, etc. (i don't know the names of most nassau towns of the top of my head!) we're not limited to these, but they are the ones i know of!
And we do have a small cat and hope that someone will allow us to bring him. so if you have any thoughts or leads, feel free to FM me!
THANKS!
Just read this - you should have NO prblem finding in this price range in any of these areas - you may even find some 2 bdrms!!!
