So here's the deal.
We werent goign to start looking yet for a place to live, butttt a friend of my moms friend told her shes renting out her apartment...So we go look at it the other night and we REALLY Liked it.....3 bedroom, BIG lving room, didning room, eat in kitchen, 1.5 baths.
Only prob is: 1400 a month
the apt is in howard beach close to the train so we can take it to work...

What should we do? continue to look or just take this one? we reallyyy liked it

is it even too early to start lookin for apts? we plan to move in july 1st or july 5th...

Jeanine Mr Broderick and I took the first apartment that we looked at...there is a lot of crap out there! If you have found something great take it!! We found it in March and we were able to get our move in date pushed to April. I think its much better to have it a few month before your wedding because you will want to do things in the apartment and furnish it and stuff...and that gets a little stressful but its fun!!! GOOD LUCK..SOOO HAPPY FOR YOU!!

I would so take it. You will never find an apt that large in Queens for less than 1400. My mom pays 1200 for a 1 bedroom in Flushing. TAKE IT!!! Utility bills are not too bad, just make sure you are careful with the lights. My electric bill in the winter is on 35.00 per month, in the summer with the AC's going it's arount 80.00-you can get basic phone service for about 60.00 per month & cable-all depends on how many channels you need!

HTH

Thats what I was thinking too-never find one this big-bc it is a BIG apt....the bedrooms in there are bigger than mine now at home!!
So besides electric and phone/cable bill..what else to pay??
im sooo clueless

That should be it-heat & water is usually the owner's responsibility.

Janine,

If utilities are not included I would STILL take it!

ETA: Obviously bills such as water, heat and gas should be paid by the landlord...I was referring to utilities such as electric, cable and phone. Good luck sweets!

as far as utlities

I pay LIPA- about $75 a month- con-ed was cheaper when i lived in the city- but is was a small apartment

Cable- I pat $185 which includes all channels, phone and cable modem

I would figure another $300 for ultites

Re: SWR: Apartment Question/Moving

jeanine -
i hate to be the odd ball out - but i wouldnt take it. i know its beautiful - and the location is good - but not only is it the first place you have looked at - there is absolutely no reason that you need an apt that big.

even if you and ginzo found a one bedroom - which apts in HB near the train are not hard to find - for $1000k a month - thats $400 you can put away.

i know you - and i know your dream of ownership - and i dont think you are looking @ this as temporary. you wont be living there forever. my opinion is go smaller and cheaper so it motivates you to leave eventually. otherwise i worry you will get stuck in the 'rent rut'.

i dont think that lady is going to come down to $1200 - and i do think that $1400 is a GREAT price - but you initally thought it was steep - go w/ your first instinct - or get off your arse and see what else is out there before you make a decision on this place.

good luck - i know its not easy...

We took the first apartment we saw too. Three bedrooms (one is tiny) $1400. Near the LIRR and the Nassau/Queens border. We had to live in Nassau but close enough to the city for my commute into Broooklyn. There was no question. We pounced on it You are getting a good deal. Take it.

When it comes to real estate..if you find something you love and you can manage to swing it, DO IT!!!!!! The other girls are right...so much crap out there.

Re: SWR: Apartment Question/Moving

I would recommend looking at a few more. $1400 is a great price, we are paying $1500 for a 2-bedroom in Astoria, and it was the first place we saw- BUT we actually did look at a bunch of other apartments. Its kind of like everything else, y ou think the first thing is the greatest, but then when you find something better the first thing isnt so great anymore. I do recommend moving in earlier than the wedding though, FH moved into our APt in Feb, and its still not totally finished.

Re: SWR: Apartment Question/Moving

Sounds really great and spacious, but you could be paying a mortgage for that amount! Where in HB Jeanine?
You should come to Lindenwood Lol. J/K

Thats waht I said. But the thing is, we dont have money for a down payment, since we are payin for the wedding.
If we didnt have to pay for the wedding, we would have def used it for a down payment on a co-op or something...

Its in old howard, about 2 blocks from the train :)
