so, I've been considering having a bikini wax done for the wedding (as I'm sure many of us do).
I've never had one done before though - the only thing I've waxed is my eyebrows.
I have REALLY sensitive skin, so as you can imagine, the thought makes me a bit nervous.
so, I made an experimental appointment for next weekend to try it out... but I have no idea how to prepare for this to make it as non-traumatic as possible.
right now, I'm... ahem... totally natural down there. Should I trim beforehand or leave as is and let them trim it? Also, I've heard things like take a painkiller beforehand to keep the swelling down... does this really work? what kind works best? how far in advance should I take it?
is this going to be the most awkward experience of my life, as I fear it will be?
any other tips and tricks or words of advice (or just words to sooth my fears!) - anything you wish you'd known before your first bikini wax? anything at all?
thanks!

Re: swr: bikini wax
well, i've never taken pain killers before getting waxed, but one tip i'd definitely give you is to trim down there so that the hair is shorter! I remember the first time I got waxed, it hurt so much because the hair was longer (I know I know, tmi) and I guess it took more tries for all of the hair to come out...when it's closer to the skin, it'll come off with one easy pull....and getting a wax isn't as bad as you'd think...before you know it, it's over...

thanks! I'll trim then... I wasn't sure if they'd trim it and that was better if it was a bit long, or if it's better to go with it short.
so, short it is!

I had considered getting my bikini waxed also - so when i talked to the girl that waxes my eyebrows she told me just to take like 2 advil about an hour before to help with the pain & swelling, She swears by the addvil - however I havent yet built up the courage to do it!

I have read that when you are about to get your period you shouldn't get it b/c your more sensitve so it will be more painful. They say it's best after your period. And yes when the hair is longer the more you feel it.

pro-waxer here. I have extremely sensitive skin, sometimes when I get waxed, I bruise, it's bad. Make sure you tell them that you have extremely sensitive skin. Sometimes there is a different wax they use for sensitive skin, that is what I get.

i just had mine today actually (a brazilian wax). u will be ok. don't trim before going cause if u trim too much there won't be enough hair to grab. if it needs to be trimmed the esthetician can do that for u. definitely take 4 advil 1 hour prior to ur appt. good luck!!

Re: swr: bikini wax
its does, but its over before u know it. the worst part is the top right by ur pubic bone, so i have her do that first to get over with. everything after that is a walk in the park!! honestly its 20 mintues of pain for 3-4 weeks of hairlessness!! so thats worth it to me!!

i've never heard of anyone bruising from it till this post. i do get a little red and tender and can't have 'fun' for the evening cause i'm sensitive. but by the next day i'm good to go. maybe start out with a regular bikini wax and see how ur skin reacts to that?

I want to do this too -- I'm so nervous!! I'm thinking about a trial -- so I'll be ready to give it another go right before the wedding.
Anyone know of good place they'd recommend in Suffolk. I live in Saint James.

Re: swr: bikini wax
Where do you girls go to get this done?
And how does the entire process work? Like do you sit there like you do at the gyno and have someone work on you like that? Do you leave your underwear on? I really want to get this done but I want to know what to expect before I go.
