swr- does anyone plan on having babies before a house?

i am just curious... i will be 31 when we get married this fall.(omg!)..and well.... if we wait until we can afford a home... imight be turning 40!! no joke lol

just wondering if anyone might be thinking of having babies before buying a house? xoxo

Me too! 31 at the time of our wedding. Yes, I can definitely see us having a baby before the house. However, we aren't buying on Long Island for that reason, too expensive! My eggs will dry up before I can say closing costs!!!!

we bought our house in dec....no its not on LI...like we could afford a house here! So I'll have some empty rooms for a few years...then slowly plan to fill them

I am in the same situation... will be 31 for the wedding. We are going to just go with the flow. We plan on trying for right away. If we have one before a house, so be it!

Im not one for advice on this subject but I can tell you, I have 4(yes 4, also a step daughter for 5 )and we are contemplating one more(not right now though). Always wanted a big family! Our problem is lack of people willing to sit for the two youngest(2 and 4)so finances are tight and because of it I see no way to make and save enough money to purchase a house any time soon. So unless you have alot of family support, and are set in your career I would go slow. We have none of that unfortunetly. Im still working through school, working p/t and while Paul makes an above avg. salary it's not enough for the market today, so we're still waiting for him to get a promotion, which will help alot. I wish you alot of luck.

i will be 31 at time of wedding too .. if it were up to FI we would be preggo now but i told him after the wedding so i think by the summer next regardless of house or not we will be preggo ...

we'll definitely have kids before a house....especially if we stay on LI. otherwise, no kids...and that would be sad.

Well I have one and one on the way and no house, but we are doing really well saving, so it will only be a matter of time.

Things are different living on LI IMO. Its just so hard to get a house if you wait until you really can afford it youll be too old to have children

The smart thing to do would be to save up before you even get married so you can buy a house and have a nice weeding, but thats just sooo much money here. I dont know how people do it if they get married young.

31 seems to be the age. I will also be 31 when we get married (soon to be 32 4 months later) so waiting for children is really not what I am looking to do. We only looked for apartments with 2 bedrooms (and thankfully found one) for that very reason. FH says we will only be there for a year but I have a feeling it will be longer unless the market takes a HUGE plunge.

honesty on long island.. unles both make good to decent money forgettaboutit!!!

it will be soo hard bc i wouldnt be able to work as much when the baby is little and that would kill saving... i dont have family to watch a baby while i work....

its a catch 22 though isnt it??? i dont want to wait more than a year or so after the weding to start trying.

House then babies! If I have to move to another state, then I will do it. I want a house!!! We are both 26 and are getting married in 2 weeks. We have plenty of time to wait. We just got real jobs this year, so we don't make to much yet. LI is just to expensive and I don't plan on struggling the rest of my life to own a home. We don't have any clue where to move, but we planning on looking.

We are hoping to buy a house in Rockland County next year (not much of a price difference from Long Island). I'll be 31 as well when we get married, I want kids but, I don't feel ready right now so we plan on waiting a year before we start trying.

well we'll be moving to Florida in a few months. most likely buying a condo before the wedding (if we're lucky) so hopefully a condo then after we get married we start having babies (i want 4!!) the house thing doesnt bother me, as long as i can afford my baby and theres enough room for him/her. i cant wait.
