I guess I am showing off my lack of culinary skills in asking this, but that's okay - I know you girls won't judge LOL!
I received an electric skillet for my shower. It's not something I put on my registry and honestly, I am not sure I'd ever use it! FH told me his mom has one and uses it all the time. What do you use it for? Is it like a frying pan or griddle? I am so clueless

Re: SWR: Electric skillets - anyone use them?
sausage and peppers, chicken, meats, you can pretty much throw anything in there and it will come out good!

I got one at a garage sale YEARS ago for lke $3 and it's the BEST! It's big so I use it when I need to cook a lot of stuff. I like that you can control the temp really well. Mine has a actual temp gauge like the oven - I can set it to 250, 350, etc and it says next to the numbers what it's good for - like, 300 is for frying, etc. I don't know if they are all like this. I love mine!

you can make anything in there - pancakes, stir fry meals, , anything you can make in a regular skillet! Its just more convenient sometimes!

I guess that's why I am confused b/c I just don't understand when I'd choose to use the electric one over a regular frying pan or griddle... I am so lost LOL

Well ... I use mine when I am making something big, like stirfry or lots of meatballs, because I don't have any really big pans - and even if I did, they wouldn't fit on my stove top. But, if you are using all 4 burners on your stove, it's an extra stove top, essentially.
Or .. if your stove is ever broken ....

My mother had one for so many years and made such great use of it. That's why I put one on my registry . I got it, but haven't had a chance to use it yet. You can use it for just about anything. Whatever you would fry...eggplant, cutlets, sausage and peppers. My mother used to do roasts in it too. Especially on the holidays if she had all the burners going. I remember one New Year's Eve I made chicken francese and there were a lot of us, so I used that because it's big and I was able to do more cutlets that way. I may not use it that much right now, but in time I think I will be glad I have it.

Right, my mom's was that way too...it had a dial with the temperatures on it. My FH asked me why I put it on too and I agree, it's the best thing! My mom always used hers.

I do meatballs in there. Even soups and casseroles. It's nice because you don't have to have the stove on or you can use it when the holidays roll around. It's definitely convenient and I would keep it. I got mine from target and I love it!
