I think we've seen almost half the houses in West Islip

Do you want Nassau or Suffolk? How far east are you willing to go?
I have seen some listings in the Commack SD that would be in your price range - also some in the Smithtown SD, and in Kings Park SD too.

be careful in Massapequa - some parts are Amityville SD, Some are Plainedge, Some are Farmingdale...so if you want just Massapequa SD watch! (although Plainedge and Farmingdale are good too!)

We don't want to go much further than Commack, Kings Park and Hauppauge. Haven't seen anything we liked yet there though.

How about this, in Elwood schools? Looks like it needs a lot of updating, but could have potential:

The one in Elwood has a teeny tiny property. I drove past it.

I like the one in Nesconset!

Why? Elwood is an excellent school district. Its also really small, which is nice, everyone knows each other, its a very strong sense of community in that SD.

Most of their kids are scoring 3 or 4 on the assessment tests

My friend has been looking for a while and just went to contract for a house in Wantaugh the owner wanted $415k 3 months ago, last month contacted them and took their offer of $392k.

Just be patient!!

i know, I'm trying to be patient, but my time is limited now with school, work, internship. After this month I won't have the time to really look at houses anymore. I'm hoping we find something by the end of September.

wow that is ALOT of houses, don't worry you will find 'the one' and when you do u will be happy you didn't settle on any other one. I know its frustrating but youll get there. Good Luck!

Check out Sayville and West Sayvllle! They were not on the list of towns that you mentioned... but Sayville is a really cute and family friendly town!

I bought a 4 bedroom home here for less than 400 in April. It doesn't need fixing. it has good siding, a nice deep property (would like it a little WIDER...), gas cooking, washer/dryer, full finished basement, fireplace, big kitchen (we did update it a bit, but only because I didn't like the bisque colored appliances!), 2 full baths, a swingset, a deck and it is on a great, quiet cul de sac. I don't really think there are any 'bad' areas in Sayville - although I wouldn't want to live on any of the BIG roads or behind the supermarket. And the school district is very good!

Take a look! Maybe you will be my neighbor!

We are in the same boat. I lost **** of the # of houses and it is just sickening-the prices of houses that is. All we want to do is live together-is that so much to ask? We are try ing to save $ and not rent but if we don't find one by X-mas-we are just going to rent-it is driving us nuts!!! Good luck! I hope you find a home soon. I am sure you will.
