A tpwnhouse would be wonderful but a 2 fam is more practical- this way you can rent out and have help w/ the mortage

Re: SWR: housing options
We currently live in a two-family house and it is not always quiet, as there is a dad with his two kids ABOVE us! It wasn't like that when we moved in, so needless to say it is quite annoying!

This is so true! Which is why you have to be super careful and ask LOTS of questions when looking. I lived in a 2 family house where the upstairs neighbor was a single woman, we had no problems with noise... until she started vacuuming at 11PM while my son was trying to sleep!

ditto! We are in LOVE with our Town House. And we never have to shovel snow or mow the lawn (so my FH gets out of responsibilities. I wish having dinner made was included in the common charges!)

So true, I rented once the downstairs of a 2 family house. The kids would run around ar 10 or 11pm.
Prior to that I lived in a h. rise most of my life. I would pick the townhouse. Less noise, more privacy.
