SWR: Which gym would you join?

I desperately need to get into shape...

Given the choice, which club would you join? (I ordered them from least expensive to most expensive according to the deal I'd get through work)

New York Health and Racquet Club
New York Sports Club
Equiox Fitness

Equinox is a lot more expensive than the other two and I wouldn't really join them unless you girls think the other two are gross or had bad experiences with them.

Help? Suggestions? or maybe I should just save myself the $$...

Re: SWR: Which gym would you join?

I was a member of NYSC for 2 years., and I decided that I wanted to try somewhere different because its expensive...I went to Ballys ONCE..and i missed NYSC...its a great gym., clean, nice people.,, I went back lol

NY Heath and Racquet Club is amazing too.

I think equinox would be your best bet for budgeting.

I'm rejoining my local gym today actually. So happy they are renovating and getting machines with TVs. But if I could afford it I would join NYSC.

Re: SWR: Which gym would you join?

I used to belong to Bally's, which was $15 a month, and then I did a trial membership at NYSC, which is $70 a month... and after a week there, I couldn't go back to Bally's. The equipment is newer, the locker rooms are cleaner, the vibe is friendlier and more adult (lots of high school kids at the cheaper gym)... I think with gyms you usually get what you pay for. All the gyms you listed sound nice, though, so as long as they're cleaned and well maintained, go to the one that's in the most convenient location for you.

Re: SWR: Which gym would you join?

other than price, what would persuade my vote for a gym would be how close it is to your home or work., is it convient to get to.

also what are hours, does the gyms hours fit into your schedule??

Re: SWR: Which gym would you join?

I honestly don't really like any of those so I didn't vote. I like a smaller gym...I dont' know why but I do lol...like a Synergy, Golds, etc.

Where is New York Health and Racquet Club? Can you tell me more about this gym?
Thanks!

Re: SWR: Which gym would you join?

This is my first post..I have been mostly reading and getting ideas.

I think the most important thing for you to decide is if you are going to go regularly. You need to pick the most convient gym for you. I belonged to NYHRC and it is a nice gym but most of them are pretty small.

Anyways, I love Equinox. Although it is the most expensive gym it is well worth it. It is so clean and they have the best instructors.

I go at lunch time and have two friends that are constantly motivating me to go.

If you join the Equinox on 44th and Lex ...i can help encourage you to meet us there.

Re: SWR: Which gym would you join?

Health and Raquets tend to be smaller...but they're nice. Equinox is usually $$$. I was a member of NYSC for years and always loved their classes. I'd say wherever u can get the best deal membership wise. It also depends where the clubs are and if they're small or large.

Re: SWR: Which gym would you join?

Thanks for the advice, ladies!!

All three gyms have locations that are close to where I work. There aren't any close enough to where I live so that doesn't make too big a difference. I defnitely have to look into the hours they're open and figure out if it fits into my schedule.

Are there any others that have used NY Health and Racquet Club?? Seems like most people that I talk to have been to NYSC and Equinox...

Here's the link for the NY Health and Racquet Club. They have lots of free classes, pools, rock climbing walls, and racquetball, basketball, and squash courts. They have 9 locations in Manhattan and 1 in Great Neck.

Thanks for responding to my post with your very first post! CONGRATS! Welcome to the addiction Was NYHRC clean at least? If it's the cheapest, and offers what seems like the most benefits, I may just join them. Have you ever been on the yacht? I'm not sure if FH will let me join Equinox because of the $$

Re: SWR: Which gym would you join?

It is already an addiction just looking...now I am worried I will be chatting all day.

NYHRC was really clean as well but since they are smaller sometimes you have to wait for a machine if you are going when it busy. which one are you thinking of going to? I have been to the one on 45th, the one on 50th and the one on 23rd street. The one on 23rd is the biggest and nicest. The best part about NYHRC is that you can go to any gym you want if you want to try new classes.

I never made it to the yacht but it looks great. Kinda wish I took the time to do that.

When I went there it was $99 a month so I am not paying that much more to go to Equinox and I like that I have a support system to make me go. The support system makes up for the extra money.

I'd probably go to the one at Water/Whitehall and 23rd St the most since they're both where I work. Although, on the weekends I could roam around in search of new classes. The deal I'd get is about 70 a month for NYHRC..which I think is a really good deal...but I wanted to make sure it's a nice gym first
