SWR: Why do people think its a crisis that I dont drink alcohol?
I have never cared for the taste of alcohol, I don't feel its a necessary part of my life in order to have a good time, and I don't drink it! Period, end of story. I don't judge people who do drink it, or make comments, etc.
Why do people feel the need to make stupid comments about the fact that I don't drink? Who the bleep cares?! And especially with my wedding, I've gotten comments like, 'What're you gonna do, toast with apple juice?' YES, maybe I am! So what, FH and I are gonna have a bad life b/c I don't toast with an alcoholic beverage?????? Give me a break!
My boss just came and asked me if I was sober today (from the wedding last night). I said, 'Yes b/c I don't drink.' He said, 'You don't drink??!! Well we need to change that!!' WHY?????? WHO CARES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really hate people sometimes!

i totally know what you mean. I do drink but have cut down a lot and whenever i go out with people from school and i'm like i don't really want to drink it's like MASS peer pressure to keep drinking. It *****. I don't really get it, but sometimes I think people feel uncomfortable or guilty if they are drinking in front of someone who isn't.

Awwww!!!! Don't let people get to you! Most people have a problem understanding that not everyone is the same....If you don't like to drink, NO Biggie!! Be yourself and that's it!!

i used to go out after work and have drinks with everyone. But my tolerance is not the same anymore! I try to tell them that and that i have to be responsible and get my *** back to work the next day...and they're like 'whatever, its cuz you're getting married and want to get home to your man'. So what if i'd rather go hang out with him, i just worked with you people all day!

I get that all the time too. I have a drink here and there- but very rarely. I hate beer and I hate when you can really taste the liquor in a drink. People make comments all the time. I don't care though. They'll get over it.

Awwh dont let it get to you! At least you will have a healthy liver! LOL. Last night I went to my friends wedding and everyone was like come on have a drink. ANd I do drink, but just didnt want too last night cause i had to work. Next thing I know my friend bought me an Appletini. She is nuts. I drank it cause it was put in font of me. I was a sucker! Anyway I think its awesome that you can go out not drink and have a great time!! That is something to be proud of!!! Good for you!

I personally love that some of my friends dont drink... person who dosent drink = happy designated driver
Also when we did our toast we both had sparkling cider we toasted with the same drink as our kids and no one knew but us

it is ridiculous and it is funny when ppl hear you dont...For MANY years while i was always out partying i never drank, so for years i would go to clubs and parties and not drink at all. It is funny how ppl react when you tell them that. Not that its something im against but i just didnt lol well actually i do have a reason why i stayed away from it, i had a bad experience when i was younger
A few years ago for some reason i started drinking little by little when i was out. Since then i have gotten drunk while i was out, here and there ill still get drunk. Many times ill just have 2 or 3 drinks and many other times ill still go out and drink nothing its not a big deal for me and ill always volunteer to be the designated driver. I do have some days where i do say 'I WANT TO DRINK tonight' lol so i have changed a bit but i do remember how ppl reacted when i always went out and never drank. Most people weren't negative though, most actually said good for me, and good bc i dont spend as much money when going out.
and who cares what you toast with at your wedding, like anybody will know. One day i dont want to get drunk is my wedding. I always HATE the way i look when i am drunk, whenever i see pics my face is so red and just dont like how i look period. I can dance alot more when i am not drinking, and just prefer it. I will have maybe 2 drinks though not sure ill see how i feel that day. Just do what makes you happy, forget what everyone has to say

I hear ya, I used to get that a lot too. I've never been a huge drinker, and I never understood why anyone cared if I drank or not. How does it affect their life?

I think what drives me and FH nuts the most is when we say 'no thanks, we don't drink' they give you that head-tilt and frowny face and say 'ohhh' like 'ohh, you're in recovery'.
W T F? Just because we choose not to drink we're automatically alcoholics? Pfft.

DH doesn't drink and we made sure the hall had sparkling cider for everyone who didn't drink.

FH does not drink and never will and we constantly have to answer questions and listen to snide remarks! It is totally uncalled for! OK and so many people ask if someone in his family was an alcholic! NO! Gosh it is so annoying and I wish people would leave him alone...and leave me alone I dont want to answer to this anymore!

Some people just don't drink..why must EVERYONE drink!
FH doesn't drink...I used to but it doesnt agree with my tummy much so I just have a glass of wine once in a while.

That is really rude if someone is asking about that. I don't understand why people just can't drink, end of story. It's not a big deal so why do people need to make it a big deal? I drink and when I hear things like that it really gets me angry.
