Table Numbers

Table Numbers

Since I am totally ignorant in how this goes, I figured I'd throw this question out there.

I'm tentatively working on a seating chart right now, and to do so, I'm copying the table chart given to me by my reception hall. The numbers go in order on that chart. I situated my parents in the center of the hall, which, according to the chart, was table 8.

My parents said that they're supposed to be at table 1. I told them that I chose table 8 because it's in the center and that table 1 is off to the side a little bit. They said that's fine, and that they could still sit at that table, but that I'm supposed to renumber the tables so that the bride's family is at table 1, even if, according to the chart, they're at table 8, because the bride's family always sits at table 1.

Now, I'm not saying they're wrong and I'm right...I'm saying I have no clue and I want to do this the right way. Logistically, though, I'm thinking that if I were a guest, I'd find it easier to find my table if the numbers went in order than if I had numbers 1-20 scattered across the room so that the bride's parents are number 1.

i think you should have the tables in some logical order. FH's parents table is our #1 because thats how it worked with the room

Contact your RH about this...waiters are trained to know the assigned table numbers, and if you change the numbers, the orders could possibly be screwed up.

Re: Table Numbers

i know it doesn't matter, it's whatever you want to do, but i have heard bride's family starts at #1. my seating chart has the BP at tables 1 and 2, which are on opposites sides of the dance floor. i only need 1 BP table, so I made my family's table #1, Fh's parents #2 and the BP #3. So for me, the bride's family is the odd numbered tables and FH's family even numbered. HTH!
