for a table runner with the pointed ends with a tassle hanging off...how much of the end should hang off the end of the table? i think mine is too short.

I had the same issues. I personally think the entire point (the triangular end - if that makes sense) and the tassle should hang over.
I bought the standard 72 inch and the tassle barely hung over. If I buy a 72 with a straight edge it is a little small but looks fine - just center it. The next size up was 90 - I think - and it hangs over a little longer than I want it too but looks ok. (Actually this time I tried with a straight edge and beads on the edge instead of the point and I think that made a difference.)
Probably just made you more confused but I had the same issue and it confused me.

I have the same problem. The 72' just reaches. Then the 90 ' is too long, then my kitty starts to play with the tassels. I think I may make one.
