Table runners

Table runners

Okay. So I got a table runner with one of the table linen sets I got at my shower but my question is should the runner hang off the table or does it reach just to each side?

For example if the dining room table is 72' w/o inserts or 92' with what size runners should I have?

These are things I wish I could ask my mom

I think it looks nicer when it hangs over each side like a tablecloth would.

I say hanging looks the nicest.

Anytime I have seen a pic of a runner, it is always hanging off the edges of the table.

Aww Jen, s to you about your mom...

I think it looks best hanging off the sides too.
And Jen... ...I''m glad that we can be here to help answer these questions for you!

Re: Table runners

Jen - too funny - I have the same question I wanted to ask today.

Now my table is 72' w/o the leaves (I have 2 leaves and my table goes to 112'). I figure for the most part I just want the runner for decoration when the table is not is use (I figure when I use it with the leaves I will probably have a table cloth and food on it anyway.) So, in the store all the runners they had were all 72' so I bought one and it looked funny on my table because it didn''t hang off and it had a design on the end that just didn''t sit right. I think if the end was straight - it would be ok if it didn''t hang over but with a design/tassle or fringe - I would want it to hang over - but they all seemed to be in size 72'...so guess I have to keep looking for more...

Now, my question is are you planning on keeping the runner and placemats on it at all times? and how does that look together? would you even do that? I just can''t visualize it...when I asked my mom about it - she asked if I planned to use placemats b/c she said then I may not want it to run over...she said at the catering all where she works they runners do not hang over...how come table runners are confusing me?

I have mine hang over. Some of mine just reach to the end, and the tassels hang over.

I have one runner with matching placemats, but I dont keep them on. I dont like the way it looks.
