I remember there being a post about this awhile ago (which I can't find now). I have my first interview in the city today and I was wondering what you think about this? Will it really make a difference? It seems so discriminatory. Thanks!

Re: Take off e-ring for interview?
I take mine off. I am afraid they will not hire me if they think I am going to leave & have kids

I had mine on for my interviews.... I'm working now, so I guess it was not a concern.

Re: Take off e-ring for interview?
I have heard this is a good idea. Who knows if it makes a difference though?
Some people may judge you based on the size of your ring. Or anticipate you being distracted and requiring time off during the planning of your wedding that they don't want to deal with now. They may also think you will be planning a family soon and either not return to work or again, an extended leave of absence.
Yes, it is discriminatory, but they will find a legitmate reason for not hiring you if this is how they think.
Good luck on your interview.

Same here. Actually, it was an ice breaker, in that it gave us something not work-related to chat about for a minute before the real interview started.

Re: Take off e-ring for interview?
I would take if off. I have been on hiring committees and people have discussed whether the people interviewing would be leaving to have children, taking lots of time of for children or weddings, etc. It is unfortunate, but it definitely affects many decisions...

Re: Take off e-ring for interview?
I would like to think that you could leave it on and that people would not start making sub-conscious assumptions about you. If you're there, I think it's safe to say you're serious about the job. That's how I would see it.
After all, it IS who YOU are.
But I know I'm wrong. My utopia does not exist.. oh well......

I left mine on. They did ask me when my wedding was and what my plans are after the wedding. It made me nervous but I was hired anyway.

I would leave it on. I think that is crazy if they judge you on your e-ring. Do you really want to work for a company that does anyway? I have never had a problem getting a job when wearing my e-ring.

Re: Take off e-ring for interview?
I would leave it on (actually I did for my interview) personally if I hired someone and they didnt have an ering on and then suddenly when they started, they did, it would tell me that this is not an upfront and honest person and I would watching them even more closely to see if I could trust them. On the flip side, if I was the one who 'lied' in an interview, I would be really nervous around everyone if I got the job. And then what would you do if you go the job? Wear the ring and lie about when you got it, or where it was, or not wear the ring at work. I interviewd for my new job at the end of April. I wore my ring and was upfront about hte fact that I was going on my HM at the end of June. I considered not wearing my ring but in the end, I felt if this was the type of company/people who wouldnt hire me because of my ring/marital status then it probably wouldnt be the type of environment that I would want to work in. (FYI, I started my job just 6 weeks before my wedding and am taking over 2 weeks off for my wedding. I told my boss in the 1st interview and said that I didnt expect to get paid for it but that I had the plans so there was no way I could change - they were perfectly okay with that)

I made sure I left mine on when I was looking for a new job. The reason I left mine on though was that if we decide to have kids and I need time off I do not want to be caught up in a company that looks down on that.
I got a job now where I can work from home so to me it all worked out.
I think the thing people forget on interviews is that you as the interviewee are interviewing the company as well. I left mine on for the sole purpose of seeing how they reacted to it.
