is it totally stupid to take some posed pictures AFTER the reception is over?
We'll be taking about an hour's worth before the ceremony ... but i'm sure we'll need some more and i REALLY don't want to miss my CH or reception ...
do you think it's stupid for me to take pictures after the reception?
my mom thinks it's the worst idea ever since we'll all be tired and unkempt after dancing and whatnot.
but ultimately, my reception is over at 4:30 in the afternoon so how bad could we be?!?!
opinions please? (no worries, if you tell me i'm stupid, i will understand lol)

Haha you might be a little disheveled, but I don't think it's a horrible idea. How would you feel about doing a day after shoot? That's what we're planning to do! And it doesn't even have to be the next day! We probably will do it 2 or 3 weeks after.

we might have an additional day of photos the following day ... but it would be with just FH and me ... otherwise, it would be very difficult getting everyone organized.
as far as the question about the wedding after us, i honestly have no idea if there is one ... worst case, we could always go to a nearby park or something, if necessary
we'll obviously just freshen up first ...

I definitely will be after the reception. We are planning to have photographer do a few night shots of us by the water.

From experience -- it is not a horrible idea but you will be exhausted.
I know it will be early but trust me it is a LONG day. If I had to pose for more pictures at the end I would have probably collapased. And DH would not be standing either since he had quite a few drinks at the wedding.
If we took pictures after I don't think I would have been able to relax completely during the Reception because I would be too worried that I would look horrible after.

I never try to be discouraging... but I think this is a terrible idea. I mean, really, really bad. I think you'll be awfully disappointed if you decide to put energy into worrying about taking photos after your wedding reception.
Honestly, I'd just back up your timeline a little more if you want more than an hour before the wedding to take photos. Just do it in the morning.
If you're going to have a day-after shoot anyway, definitely don't do a 'right after the wedding' shoot.

I have to agree - you will be more unkempt than you think. Not to mention you will be tired and your feet will hurt even though you'll be on an adrenaline high. Plus, I didn't drink at my reception (two glasses of wine maybe) but DH did and even though he was far from drunk, he was a bit 'happy'. Not the best for formal pictures. Not to mention his tux was wrinkled, he was sweaty from dancing, etc.

I don't think you will want to take a HUGE amount of pics, but I think it's nice when the bride and groom take some goodbye photos at the end. A few of my friends did this towards the end of their receptions and they came out nice. Your bridal party will probably not want to take pics at the end tho. HTH.

Re: take some posed pictures AFTER reception?
I think a Day After shoot might be better-this way you get to put your dress back on! And you'll be more refreshed. And like another person posted...the hall might need to clean up and/or have another party coming in. Even if there isn't another party; the staff might want to close up & go home and not have to necessarily have to wait around. I'd check with the hall & see if it's even an option.

Re: take some posed pictures AFTER reception?
We took some pics after the reception only because it rained our entire party and then as soon as it was over, the sun came out!!!!!!! So i decided we would take some more pics outside that we didnt get a chance to get...
I must admit, we look pretty exhausted and DH was drunk so they werent the BEST pics, but im so happy i did bc I got in an awesome shot that is one of my favs...

Re: take some posed pictures AFTER reception?
IMHO I would say this is not a good idea. When I think back on how I felt when my reception was over I would have never felt like taking photos. My hair was falling out and I was sweaty from dancing. Also, someone stepped on my foot @ the end of the reception on the dancefloor and I was bleeding all over (The MC thought it would be a good idea to have everyone hug us goodbye - it looked cute in the video but it was a bit of a stampede)! I was also so exhausted that I didn't even want to go to my after party. I would make some more time in the AM after just getting ready bc that is when you will feel and look the best.

Re: take some posed pictures AFTER reception?
It's a good idea if you absolutely have no time before the RH. I understand that you don't want to miss anything, but as the night progresses, everyone's attire and hair may not look as perfect as it did earlier in the day.

thanks for the advice, everyone ...
we've decided to meet up a little earlier than originally planned and get all pictures done before the ceremony itself

Re: take some posed pictures AFTER reception?
I think you'll be more tired and mentally exhausted than you will realize. and coming off of an adrenaline high... which to me, just doesn't make a good experience when you are having to pose for pictures. I say extend time before the wedding to do it, or just take 30 minutes for a few extra during the reception. You'll be able to get everything in and especially if you are doing a day after shoot- I would discourage after wedding posed.

Re: take some posed pictures AFTER reception?
I don't think it's a good idea. We were pulled out of the reception for some more photos and we took photos during our cocktail hour. I LOVE our photos but we alloted lots of time to it.
Even if just the two of you are pulled out during the reception for 20 mins...you'll get great shots.
I would do that instead.

I do not think it is the best idea. You are going to be exhausted! Think about what time you have to get up that moring and all of the excitement, emotions, dancing and drinking...not to mention any unforeseen accidents. At the end of my wedding reception my make up was perfect but my dress was wrinkled and my hair was less than perfect.

Re: take some posed pictures AFTER reception?
IMO, I don't think you should do this. I really think after the reception the last thing you will want to do is take pictures. And you will not look as good as you will in the begining just because who could??
