Is anyone doing this? How exactly does it work, can you go by either name if you do that?

My sister did that. She officially changed her middle name to her last name and then her last name is his last name.

my sister did that. She wanted to keep her name, but not hyphen it. I sort of wish I had done it, but oh well- no biggie!

i did that, so my full name is now Tina Marie Maiden Married. For work I use Tina Maiden Married, otherwise just use my married name. I don't use just my maiden name for anything anymore.

I did it. I filled out the form with my maiden name as my middle name. Technically, my last name is my married name, but depending on the situation I will sometimes still refer to myself by my maiden name (usually for work-related things)

When you file the paperwork for your name change, just put down your new first middle and last name on the documentation.

i did this as well. start at social security. you just write in what you want your new card to say.

My FSIL did this too - her maiden & married name wer too long to hyphenate so she replaced her middle name w/ maiden and added in married last name

How did they all do this? When I got them marriage license they told me I couldn't do that on the license and I'd have to go to court and have my named changed. I was so annoyed!!

i was confused about this too.. i am taking FH's name.. but i thought of hyphenating it with my maiden.. but when i looked it up it seemed like you could only A.) take his name B.) keep yours C.) create a new name with a mix of both of your names.. or something like that or D.) make your middle name your maiden name.. but you would lose your middle name..which i don't wanna do.. so i'm still not sure about everything...

I'm still debating or well i'm back to debating I was going to just change it but now i'm really attached to my maiden name and don't want to give it up. I don't think my last name would be a good middle name it's too strange. and FH's point of just chaning it is when we have children their name would be maiden-married or so he says, lol. So other then just keeping it for myself it's not going to keep my maiden name moving on.

My mom did this....and my brother's name is my mom's maiden name....I know we won't go that far but I always thought it was cool. I'm big on making traditions so I dropped my middle and took my maiden name. I use my maiden at work and my married name on all documents. I love that I kept it....it's a nice tribute to my family.

My middle name is my mom's maiden name. I'm going to keep it and hyphenate my last name.

I hyphenated. I couldn't bear to part with my last name. I was all ready and convinced myself to change it to DH's name at the office, but when we got online to pay for the marriage license I panicked and started to tear up. He told me to change it any way I want, he'll even take mine (as a joke) as long as I stop panicking. So I just hyphenated. It felt like 20 lbs off of my shoulders. I guess deep down your heart, mind, body (whatever that was) will tell you.
