Taking off my Bride tiara for a moment...

Taking off my Bride tiara for a moment...

And putting on my pissed of guest mask.

I am so flipping IRRITATED right now. Mostly because I fugging HATE my job, but I'm just so annoyed.

We have a wedding to go to on Friday. I took the day off, but it was always a 'contingent' day off, because this week like the entire office is away on vacation, and I am the only one that can take the sales calls. Plus, we are putting our new catalog to bed, and I had to tie up all those loose ends. My boss, the decision maker and ruler of the not so free world, is one of the people on vacation, so he isn't around to make the final decisions, and no matter what I decide in his absence will be the WRONG decision. He already told me that if things are 'too busy' during the week, he expected me to come in, to which I replied I would be here in my dress and heels and not to worry. He just looked at me funny, because I don't think he knew if I was serious or not.

So of course our printer decides, even though we submitted final approval yesterday, that we won't have the color proofs until Friday, and we must approve them and turn them back around for Saturday delivery in order to meet our deadline. Which could be a problem if I'm not here. My boss said that one set should be sent here, and one to our sales manager in PA so at least someone with 'authority' could see them. What he didn't know is that the printer planned on charging us 400 BUCKS for a second set of proofs, which we certainly don't have to spend, so that even furthered my point of you cannot possibly do this.

Before leaving for vacation herself yesterday, my office manager said if that's the time frame that was going to happen, she was making the executive decision that we would not do anything until my boss comes back on Monday, so he could make the final call, and send it back for Tuesday, and to only send one set of proofs to our office.

The printer said if we do this, we will probably delay our drop date by TEN DAYS!!!!

My boss is going to check in early this afternoon from vaca, and I have a feeling that when I tell him what's going on he's going to go against logic and common sense and pay the extra money and make me come in on Friday to settle everything.

Which brings me to why I'm so PISSED OFF right now. This fugging wedding has been such an inconvenience for everyone, FH has to take vacation hours for it because he already used up all his personal time when he father was in the hospital, I have to get a stomach ulcer because of having to leave my job and have my boss ream me from 3000 miles away, everyone in FH's family had to get off work, and those who couldn't have to miss the ceremony, and I know I'm probably pissing off a good third to half of those here, but whatever, not everyone is off during the summer, so grow up and pick another place rather than do something so inconsiderate to everyone like have it an hour and a half away from your church during summer Friday night Hamptons traffic.

End of rant. I'll put my tiara back on now.

hahahahahaha! Your rants are funny Ali!!

All the printer mumbo jumbo!! I was able to follow the jist of it. But I get confused with the work jargon. What do you do again? When are you going to get another job and quit that sweat shop??? You NEED to get out of that place FAST!!!!!

I feel your frusteration with the traffic and distance thing. That's why we didn't go too far out East when we were picking the place!!

Who's wedding is this anyway? Sounds like a relative of FH?

Re: Taking off my Bride tiara for a moment...

Basically, I do marketing and sales for a promotional product company, and one of my main functions is to produce their catalog. I tried to keep the technical talk as simple as possible. I just hate it because everyone else takes like months of vacation, I'm not even exaggerating , and I'm always enslaved here for the entire summer, and fall/early winter too, which, goodie!, my wedding falls at the very end of deadline week.

I haven't even asked for a vacation, and never actually took a vacation in my 2 years here, and I ask for ONE day off, and not even to do something for me or that I'm going to particularly enjoy, and I can't even do that. I'm looking, but it's really bad out there right now, especially for what my experience lies in.

I should really just go back to school and become a perma-student drifter, I'd probably be happier.

Sorry you are having a crappy week but you were correct in your assumption that you might be offending people on here.

You might feel inconvenienced because you have to take off work to go to a Friday wedding, but there are plenty of brides on here, myself included, who are having Friday weddings for various reasons and I don't consider my wedding day to be an inconvenience and those people who feel that it is shouldn't come.

How close to you are the couple getting married? Maybe you should just pass on their wedding, and explain there is a work crisis?

I am also having a Friday wedding, but I think what Ali means is that having it in the middle of the summer, in the Hamptons, on a Friday, during the day, at a time when most people are at work (as opposed to later, like 7:00 p.m.), can seem a bit inconvenient.

I wasn't offended at all.

Oh my gosh, you poor girl. Your boss sounds like the most annoying boss ever. And I totally hear you about the wedding being completely inconvenient. Hope everything works out and I really hope you don't have to make it on Friday.

Where do you work? I used to work in the industry and I can't say that I miss it all that much, although it was interesting at times. This can't be the best of times as far as promotional product buying is concerned. I bet it's hectic around there.

Ali - you've said before that your boss is a giant pain in the a$$ and that you make slave wages, so maybe he'll be too cheap to shell out the $400 and you won't have to go in on Friday?

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I also have a Friday wedding and I'm not offended.

I think she was moreso referring to the fact that the church and reception was so far apart intop of being on a Friday. Which is something a bride should and hopefully does consider when they decide on the location(s) and date. I mean honestly a Friday midday wedding that's in the Hamptons... you KNOW the guest will encounter A LOT of traffic (esp if they are guests that aren't from that area) and then to have the church so far away.

I am getting married on a Saturday on Eastern LI at 2 PM, reception not til 6. I told my city friends, etc. that I am not at all offended if they don't come to the church, and just come to the reception, so they don't have to hang out in an unfamiliar area, etc. for a few hours.

Yeah, that is what I meant. In general I do not consider Friday weddings to be an inconvenience. This *particular* one is, due to all the location and timing factors that are bordering ridiculous, and mainly because of my shizzy work situation. I'm from the school of thought where I find it incredibly rude to skip the ceremony and just come for the party, unless there is a dire situation that prevents you from going, so I'm upset and frustrated at that fact, because I know I'd be upset if 'close' family did not come to my ceremony because their job s/ucks.

It sounds like your bosses are a bunch of a-holes.

First of all, Why havent you taken a vacation in two years?? I can see if you want to acrue the days for the time of your wedding, but if they make it impossible for you to take 5+ days off in a row, that is just bs.

Do what I do when I can't get a day-bang out.

Well, I had the neve to get Bronchitis and a 100+ fever a few weeks ago and called out, and my boss hasn't said more than 2 words to me since.

True story.

In happier news, the cheapness DID, in fact, win out, and he is OK with only receiving one set of proofs and looking it over on Monday, so I am free to go on Friday, and I can stop being a guest and go back to being a demanding bride, whew!

that's good news.

But if your boss doesnt speak to you or treats you a certain way because youre legitimately sick, to me, thats borderline harrassment.

I am also having a Friday wedding and I wasnt offended either by what Ali said. Eventhough my wedding is at 6pm, I hope that people can still make it to the church on time. If people only show up to the reception... I personally would feel insulted but thats just IMO. But, I also know that your boss really gives you a hard time and you can Never take off, and if you do- you get $hit for it... so for you, I would totally understand. Im so sorry you have to deal with this still... its not fair at all!

Re: Taking off my Bride tiara for a moment...

It is hard for me to comment on this because I had my ceremony on a Friday afternoon two weeks before memorial day and then a reception in East Northport which a lot of people considered very inconvenient. My personal opinion on this was if I am giving a person over a years notice about the timing of the wedding they either have plenty of time to figure out how to get there or they don't come period.

Your case is def different though because of your job but in all honesty (and I am totally not trying to start a fight - just stating my opinion) I think the anger needs to be directed 100% at your job...Yeah the wedding is a little inconvenient for you guys but I am sure if they did it at another time it would totally mess someone else up..We all know better than anyone that no one's wedding is going to make everyone else happy!

But on a more serious note.. Why does work s uck so bad????

Ali - I'm so glad it worked out for you! I work for a really great bunch of people (honestly) but even with how great and understanding they are - cheapness ALWAYS wins out!!

Re: Taking off my Bride tiara for a moment...

I know the feeling... I work in a school and while we get lots of forced vacations, we get only 2 precious 'unspecified' personal days a year, and THAT'S IT. Because I'll be using my 2 days for when I get married, I'm forced to fly down to Mexico on a Saturday morning for my best friend's Saturday night destination wedding (for which I'm a bridesmaid), and then fly right back to NY on Sunday morning. Let's just hope the plane going is on time or I miss the wedding!

Don't you love how work dictates your life? But I suppose in this environment, we shouldn't complain if we HAVE a job.
