Taking pictures before ceremony

Taking pictures before ceremony

I have a huge worry! We booked our place for a Friday at 8pm (ceremony), 8:30pm (CH), 9:30PM (reception) and we want to take pics when is still light outside, our soon-to-be photographer recommended us to take pics before the ceremony. But I'm now thinking...how valid is the superstition about the groom seeing the bride before the ceremony????

What do u girlies think about this

** The reason why we're having our wedding at that time is because we want to have the CH in the gardens of Chateau Briand and it looks gorgeous during the night time and we wanted our guests to experience that as well.

We are personally not doing it but I think it's a very wise decision to get all the pictures out of the way so you can just enjoy every part of your wedding without being taken away for pictures every 2 seconds. Esp. in your case where you are not going to have a lot of light available for pictures after the ceremony (if any!).

It's an individual decision but I personally don't believe in seeing each other beforehand. We therefore are extending our CH by a half hour to allow us to get all the pictures in AND still have time to join the CH!!

You will probably miss your CH if you don't do pics before. I originally didn't want to see eachother before, but when your ceremony is right before your CH, it makes it very difficult to get all the pics done without stressing! And I want a few moments alone after the ceremony. No stand here, sit here, look at him, look at me, no people rushing up to us, just a few moments to relax! And there's no way to do that if we do pics during CH. Our RH allows us to be there 2hrs before the ceremony to either get ready or do pics, so we are doing our pics!
I wasn't worried about superstition, I was more thinking about the romance of it. But the photographer sets it up beautifully and captures every second of it!

So I accidentally voted Yes, Don't do it, but we will be doing it! I don't think it's bad luck, and it's very practical.

FH is very adamant about going to CH and eating all the food! Plus, CH is a great time to mingle and visit with your guests.

For us, it means I have to get us very early, but I think it's worth it. And most places/photogs will do some kind of reveal for when FH sees you.

We're taking our pics before the ceremony. We're even going to the location together..lol. I'm more of a budget bride and all about convenience rather than supersticious, so it made sense just to all go together in one limo, do pics before the ceremony, go to CH for a while to greet our guests so we won't have to waste so much time doing that at the reception. All in all, it's your decision and whatever you're comfortable with.

FH and I will be taking pics before the ceremony too ... it means we can enjoy the rest of the wedding!

if you don't want your FH to see your gown, maybe you can wear a gowns specifically for pictures (though that means spending more $$$)

we're taking all of ours beforehand. the meaning behind the tradition is actually very silly - when marriages were arranged, men weren't allowed the see the bride before the ceremony so in case he didn't like her or thought she was fugly, he couldn't run away!

i just heard of the reasoning behind the custom the other day and it made me feel much better about my decision to take pics before the ceremony!

i had a hard time with this too because i thought i wanted to have the traditional way of having FH see me when i walk down the aisle...but now that i've decided to do pics before the ceremony, i couldn't be happier. i just know how much easier it will make everything and how much stress it will avoid.

I completely agree. I was so hesitant to take pictures before the ceremony, completely against it. But then I realized that I have to deal with stupid daylight savings time and the sun going down earlier. So we are definitely taking *some* pictures before the ceremony. I really like the idea of a 'reveal.'

we are taking ours before hand.....

Tradition went out the window with us...I got over it real quick...its just better. we are paying all of this money for our wedding and we want to enjoy it....seeing each other during the reveal will be just as special and more intimate anyway :)

We are taking pictures before the ceremony. We are even riding together in a rolls royce to the picture location then to the reception hall together. I wanted to make sure we enjoyed our CH and although pictures are very important to me I didnt want to miss part of my wedding taking 101 pictures. I am not big on superstitions at all. Do what works better for you.

We took most of our pictures before the ceremony so that we could attend CH, it was a great decision we made, it gave us a good amount of time to go around and say hello to people during the CH rather than the reception.

DH and I were still pulled out during the reception to take some more pics, but our bp weren't bothered for anymore pics

Re: Taking pictures before ceremony

We aren't .. i just decided i wanted to see him when i step down the aisle. How ever... we will be doing pics with bridal party prior. so after the ceremony we have to do us and us with family and bp together. cuts down on some pics.also we added an extra 30 minutes to coctail hour and plan on at least going to the last 30 minutes. All pics of us seperate with GM and BM will be done prior. thats just me.

ahh i didnt answer the ? though..

I don't think its bad luck though.. do what you want. If it doesnt bother you go for it!!! We aren't huge into pics so we aren't so worried about it!!! If you are crazy about pics def. see eachother prior!

I am not superstitous when it comes to that stuff. You do what you want. I personally just don't want him to see me until i walk down the aisle!!

We're doing our pics prior to our wedding ceremony... We decided that we wanted to enjoy our CH etc along with our guests... and not have to pull away with family and the bridal party during.

Its totally up do you. We're going to do pics before, and I voted that you should, but youve gotta do what you believe. If you really feel like its unlucky or whatever than don't. But it is a great way to get pics in during the daylight (we're having an evening ceremony too) and enjoy your cocktail hour and everything.
