I have a huge worry! We booked our place for a Friday at 8pm (ceremony), 8:30pm (CH), 9:30PM (reception) and we want to take pics when is still light outside, our soon-to-be photographer recommended us to take pics before the ceremony. But I'm now thinking...how valid is the superstition about the groom seeing the bride before the ceremony????
What do u girlies think about this
** The reason why we're having our wedding at that time is because we want to have the CH in the gardens of Chateau Briand and it looks gorgeous during the night time and we wanted our guests to experience that as well.

Re: Taking pictures before ceremony
OK. I was dead-set against seeing FH before. The more I thought about it and talked it through with photog & DH, the more it seemed like the right decision for us.
it really does make life easier and allow you more time to enjoy your wedding. And let me tell you...it really does go so fast. So missing 20 minutes + for photos? I can't imagine. I blinked my eyes and it was time for cake...really!!!
Also, having time before (without standing at the 'alter' in a room filled with guests) to actually take a minute to 'see' each other...really really see each other that day before the whirlwind of events began, was priceless. He got to react to seeing me for the first time, not just with his eyes and his smile, but with his arms and lips and words. I can't wait to see the pictures!
So again, I was all about the 'tradition' but looking back, our decision was the right one. I wouldn't have changed a thing!
(wow. i didn't realize i had so much to say!!!)

Re: Taking pictures before ceremony
thats an old superstition. i think that @ the time of the ceremony would be to late and you would have no pictures. definatly do it in the afternoon when it is still light out to get some beautiful pictures on your wedding day.

Re: Taking pictures before ceremony
We are not taking pictures before the ceremony. It's something I am adamant about. I want to see his expression as he sees me for the first time walking down the aisle with my father and vice versa. We are having two photogs, one with me and my family/bridesmaids before, and one with FH and his family/groomsmen before. They will ride to the ceremony with us taking pictures of the story as it unfolds. After the ceremony we just need a couple of group family pics and a half hour of pics together, then we can join our CH that we extended by a half hour.
I don't really care where the tradition came from, I just love the feeling of it but it's your own wedding so you have to do what you want!

we're taking all of ours beforehand. the meaning behind the tradition is actually very silly - when marriages were arranged, men weren't allowed the see the bride before the ceremony so in case he didn't like her or thought she was fugly, he couldn't run away!

Re: Taking pictures before ceremony
I'm taking pics after. I'm so excited about him seeing me for the first time as those doors open to the ceremony room and I walk down the aisle!! I may be the only bride who is not too thrilled about taking tons of posed pics, so I'm gonna try to do it in 30 minutes...ambitious, yes...impossible, no. I want to at least be in the last half hour of my CH. I'm more into candids anyway, so I'm looking forward to the reception shots.
I don't think it's bad luck...it's just about personal preference and deciding what is more important to you.

I haven't decided what to do yet either.. I'm not worried about bad luck I just like the tradition of him seeing me for the first time that day walking down the aisle. I'm afraid it'll take something away from it if we do the 'reveal'. Also my RH promised to bring us all the food from CH if we do pics during CH

I am getting married at Chateau on July 24, 2011 and we are taking pictures before the ceremony. For all the work put into this event my fiance and I want to enjoy every minute of the party.

Re: Taking pictures before ceremony
I don't think its bad luck at all. But I personally wouldn't do it, because I think it takes away from the first time you see each other. My friend took pics before the ceremony, and the way they set it up just didn't seem special to me at all. He was turned around and she walked up behind him, it seemed really cheesy. With that said, this is only my opinion, and I do NOT think its bad luck at all.

Re: Taking pictures before ceremony
i dont think it is bad luck at all.... in some religions the bride and groom must see eachother before hand.... FH and I are taking pics before the ceremony so we dont miss all of CH.... At first i was totally against it... but then i realized your paying so much $ for the RH you might as well enjoy every minute of the party....
the photographer will be able to set up the moment perfectly for when your FH first sees you so it will be just as romantic as the first time he sees you walking down the Aisle.

We took all of our pictures before the ceremony so that we could attend CH. I am happy we did so we could enjoy the whole wedding and not waste time getting pictures.

Re: Taking pictures before ceremony
My ceremony is at 5:30pm and we are doing pictures before hand. We want to be able to unwind & see our guest, relax, etc I think getting the pictures done before relieves a lot of stress.. but you have to decide what you're ok with.

I accidentally voted for yes, but I meant to vote for no. That's just my opinion though. If you believe in superstitions, then it might bother you. I personally do not believe in them, so I don't think there is anything wrong with seeing each other beforehand.

my fiance and i were against it at first, but then we decided that we are going to take our pictures before the ceremony. we're spending too much time and money not to enjoy every part of our wedding.

Re: Taking pictures before ceremony
I always thought I'd be superstitious about it but I really haven no other option if I want BP picks in the sunlight. So, before the ceremony it is!
