This is going to sound crazy to some of you but I don't want a bridal shower. My BMs mentioned needing the guest list as soon as I'm done with it --- while I love receiving presents and I know this is a happy time, I hate the idea of sitting and opening present after present in front of people.
I've been to showers where it's taken way over an hour to open presents and I've been bored out of my mind. I feel like this is all I'm going to think about while I'm up there tearing into wrapping paper. Showers with games are better but some people hate shower games.
I've also been a little sad at some showers because I always felt like I would never be a bride. I know a lot of single women (women who would be invited to the shower) who feel like this too.
Maybe I should have a co-ed shower?

Re: talking about showers
honestly if the BM's are on point the gift opening can go quickly...ive seen it go on for 4 hours when nobody helped and another time she had 75 guests and honestly she did the gifts in an hour or less, her bms were amazing and so quick.
I would say you should do it, even if you do co-ed...but this only happens once in your life so enjoy it...dont worry about how some guests feel...honestly ive been to showers when i was single and i never felt like that so dont let it be a concern. Don't think about the little things, but the overall picture and have fun with it...you also dont have to do a traditional shower...make it unique

I am with you. I don't want a shower and have had a few disagreements with my family about it. They won. I am having a shower.

you have a point there. He might say yes at first and then one of his friends will say something (like'I wouldn't be caught dead') and he'll back out

Just an idea...my friend did a cellophane shower where all the guests were asked to wrap the gifts in clear cellophane so she didnt have to open them, she saw them, announced them, and moved on to the next.

I look at it this way; I have sat throught many showers in my life and now it is time to turn the tables. Now it is my turn to have people sit there and watch me open presents like I did for them.

same here. i get hives at the thought of a shower. i hate going to them but my sisters and i have a system like mentioned above and opening presents flies by - we are all really quick with it - one unwraps, one writes down, one throws away the garbage, and i'll sit there hold it up and yell out who it's from
hopefully it won't be so bad. and i don't think you should ask/make fh go - showers are torture for women, IMO.

I actually like that idea -- most things will be off the registry anyway and won't be a surprise.

I am SO happy I am not the only person who thinks it's torture! I feel better already. Any other ideas I can pass on to the BP?

yeah, torture is a good word for it...i've never been to a 'fun' shower. I know you can have them do games and stuff. a lot of girls have cute ideas for games. I want music somehow and hopefully mine won't be too many people. GL!

why dont you do a sex and the city theme...have cocktails, play music and have everybody come dressed up in nice outfits. I saw an 07 bride had a spa shower...she had ppl come give mini massages and other spa treatments. Or have a MU artist give mini make overs...have belly dancing lessons if you want music...theres many different things you can do

Re: talking about showers
what about a moroccan themed shower...have fuschias/oranges and dark purples and golds. You can do SOOOO much with this theme. ANd incorporate the belly lessons in this...get those nice colored pillows have them sit on the floor to watch the belly dancer then get up to do it themselves too

yeah, if you're not into the typical bridal showers then change it up. Make it anyway you want, so this way you can enjoy it too.
