talking about showers

Original post by FutureMrsCarrieri

This is going to sound crazy to some of you but I don't want a bridal shower. My BMs mentioned needing the guest list as soon as I'm done with it --- while I love receiving presents and I know this is a happy time, I hate the idea of sitting and opening present after present in front of people.

I've been to showers where it's taken way over an hour to open presents and I've been bored out of my mind. I feel like this is all I'm going to think about while I'm up there tearing into wrapping paper. Showers with games are better but some people hate shower games.

I've also been a little sad at some showers because I always felt like I would never be a bride. I know a lot of single women (women who would be invited to the shower) who feel like this too.

Maybe I should have a co-ed shower?

I look at it this way; I have sat throught many showers in my life and now it is time to turn the tables. Now it is my turn to have people sit there and watch me open presents like I did for them.

This is exactly what I was going to say! I feel the same way when I am at a shower...bored! But it's your turn now, cause even if you don't have a shower you will have to attend others showers and Its not fair you don't get your turn. have your BP start to open the presents and it can go fast. Or have a small one where you won't have many to open. But this is a fun time for you so try to enjoy it! As for Co ed....for me I know FH would hate it, as would all the men asked to go. It's not their idea of a good afternoon....

I personally am not a fan of asking guests to wrap in cellophane. Even though we register and know what we're getting, I feel people have taken their time to go buy something and wrap it, that I should take the minute to unwrap and 'OOO & Ahh' in appreciation of what they bought me.

I will definitely have BM's help move it along for me though so it won't take too long.

why dont you do a sex and the city theme...have cocktails, play music and have everybody come dressed up in nice outfits. I saw an 07 bride had a spa shower...she had ppl come give mini massages and other spa treatments. Or have a MU artist give mini make overs...have belly dancing lessons if you want music...theres many different things you can do

Those are GREAT ideas --- belly dancing lessons would be so much fun!

yeah, if you're not into the typical bridal showers then change it up. Make it anyway you want, so this way you can enjoy it too.

oooo now this is something I can get excited about!!! I'm going to run it by the BP...
It's not traditional to get involved in the planning of your own shower but who cares, right?

Awww, I think you should have one. You might regret it. Just tell your BM you want the present opening to be quick and painless...that is how I want mine to be! BUT JMO, I think you should have it!

hey youre not even doing a traditional shower so who cares if you get involved...do what makes you happy...dont feel forced to go with ideas you don't like...Make it something you know you will enjoy...Honestly the whole belly dancing thing does sound like alot of fun...if you do it, let us know. I am sure the pics will turn out great

lol

FH just called.
I asked him what he thought about co-ed showers. He goes, 'Oh no -- no way!' Then he asked his partner who declared it 'more than a little gay'

Then FH said, 'PLEASE tell me you're kidding'

Re: talking about showers

old thread, but i was looking for shower stuff, which i can not disclose right now......

kat and i went to a baby shower recently where the Mom-to-be got a ridiculous amount of gifts! but the girls in charge were pros (i think they'd done this a dozen times or so)....they were sooooo organized, and it went quick. as the M-T-B was opening, the girls were opening cards, tearing scotch tape, and stacking neatly next to her.

also, they had games like Shower Bingo, to keep people interested. They also had one of the little girls in charge of a timer, and she'd set it for X minutes, and whoever's gift was being opened when the timer went off got a prize.
it went quickly.
also, i was in charge of making the hat, so i was far from bored. :)

it was a super nice shower....i hope kat doesn't expect her bridal shower to be that nice.
