I was told by my demotologist that while pregnant your skin is more suspectible to sun damage and your risk of developing skin cancer rises. Treat yourself and go to the spa and have tinting done. It looks great and helps to protect your skin because dye.

I was just going to ask about spray on tanning. That's the same thing as tinting, right? It's safe?

As long as it is natural tinting, not a chemical change on your skin. But I would ask your OB first.

Not to hijack this thread, but I have a question:

is it just that tanning booths are dangerous when you are preggo? Of course I understand that tanning isn't good for you no matter what your circumstance - but is it actually harmful for the baby ?

I ask this because my SIL went tanning throughout her pregnancy.. not to tanning salons, but she was by the pool and at the beach every weekend.. and the baby is fine

Sorry if I sound like a dummy I'm just curious is all

No, it is actually more harmful to the mother. The change in your hormones and pigmentation make you more subseptible to the UV rays and can cause damage at a much higher rate, those increasing your odds in developing skin cancer.

Yep you can get really bad brown spots on your face. I got them when I was on BCP - my doctor said same thing would happen when I get pregnant. Its the hormones in your body. It was sooo bad for me. I had it around my mouth, my forehead, my nose, my cheeks. I had to use a bleaching cream for months before my wedding to get rid of them and now every day I have to wear lotion with 30 SPF. In the summer I have to wear 30 or 40SPF to keep from getting blotchy again. Once you have it it doesnt go away! Its *****!!

Ahh Ok .. I understand better now. I assumed it was more harmful to Mommy rather than baby, but I just wanted to double-check

Thanks for clearing that up ladies!!

I heard that it's also harmful for the baby, because it's the same going to saunas... it increases your blood pressure, and that could be harmful to the baby.

however, I heard that tanning salons offer just facial tanning... I don't see how that could be baking your body... maybe that's better?
