tanning advice

tanning advice

Ok, so I'm pale as a ghost and I have my sister's wedding on May 23rd.

I'm debating going to a tanning salon this weekend to get some color. Does anyone have any advice?

I was thinking of doing a spray on trial this Sunday. The girl says they only last about 4 days anyway. If I like it, I can do it again the day before the wedding. but I heard you can't always trust them and under the photog's lights it may come out streaky.

My other option is to do a few minutes in a tanning bed. But I worry about over-doing it and being the same color pink as the dress I have to wear next week. Maybe do a session this Sunday and another on Wednesday???

Help please. I generally try to avoid the sun, but looking @ the photos from the bachelorette party, I look so pale.

Re: tanning advice

A few minutes in the tanning bed everyday from now till the wedding is not going to do much. If you burn easily then it's not a good idea. Try the spray-on tan. I have never done it but I know people who have.

I have heard that beach bum tanning has a really good spray on tan but if you know people that have done it before then ask them where they went.

Re: tanning advice

I have sprayed before but I am naturally a little dark or olive tone. If you are pale a spray might look really fake.. I would buy a week package and go a few times before next weekend just do a few minutes at a time as to not over do it. Start with just a few minutes and gradually add some more day by day... Don't wait until last minute though bc you don't want to be pink like you said.

honestly I would start today

I would recommend staying away from tanning..it's so bad for your skin. Do a spray tan, try it out first to make sure you don't look orange or just use bronzer on your face. You don't look pale btw.

Re: tanning advice

So, will 5 minutes a day in a tanning bed actually make a difference? Or will it not be noticeable

My sis said she did 8 minutes at the start of the season and she was red.

Maybe I'll just lay out in the sun on Sunday....

I'm so mad at myself because I meant to start this 2 weeks ago.

Grrrr. I hate this.

Re: tanning advice

If you want to tan, I would go to your local tanning salon and ask them. It depends on the beds too. Obviously some as stronger than others and some are for bronzing and others are more like the sun (atleast this is what they say, and I'm gulable so take from this what you will)

I would either do the tanning bed or sit in the sun. I have sprayed and it is better for your of course but it can look streaky if not done perfectly. Also everytime I have done it (4 or 5 times) it lasts more than 4 days... closer to 2 weeks on dry parts of your skin, i.e. elbows ankles... etc...

It really depends on your skin if 5 mins a day will work. They do have different shades of spray tan. Just call some places and ask to speak to a manager if the person you are talking to does not sound educated on tanning.

I'd start with 6 minutes one day then two days later do 7 or 8 and go from there based on how you're reacting to it. I also agree that you should start ASAP, good luck!

Re: tanning advice

Definitely start tanning in a bed or naturally now. If you get burnt, it will take a few days to go away AND you may peel afterwards. Don't do anything too close before the wedding, especially if you're pale. I highly suggest against spray tanning... no matter how good it is, you will always have an orange glow to your skin. Also, it may streak, especially in warmer weather. Maybe start by tanning naturally if the weather is warm this weekend and then ease into the bed. Good Luck!

Re: tanning advice

The weather is supposed to be terrible this weekend so I can't get sun naturally.

Has anyone heard anything about the Mystic Spray Tan? reading reviews online I can't really find anyone saying negatives about it - which ALWAYS makes me suspicious.

Re: tanning advice

I HAVE NEGATIVE TO SAY ABOUT IT!!!

STAY AWAY! (this is only my experience, god knows we have to write disclaimers b4 we tell ou rhonet opinion on here)

The freakin thing broke while I was in there. No joke! It only sprayed my feet... the whole thing got jammed. I obviously jumped out told the people at the salon and scrubbed the h e l l out of them so no color actually stayed on my skin thank god. OMG terrible experience I highly, HIGHLY suggest you stay away...

I know I am going to get bashed for pushing the idea of a tanning bed on you, bc of the dangers but the situation you are in it is the best option.

BTW I have been sprayed at beach bum and it was streaky... all the other times I have done it I went to a nice Spa by me and had much better color and outcome.

I generally disapprove of tanning beds. I know they are horrible for your skin. But I figure how much harm can 1 or 2 sessions really do? Not like I plan on making this a regular thing...

Lol, I feel like I could channel my mother right now and it would not be something you'd wnat to hear...

Instead, I'm just going to say that I don't think you look 'too' pale -- I think you look just fine. That's why we have bronzer.

But maybe that's just me... I am still of the mindset that tanned skin = poisoned skin.

Dont know if you come into the city at all but there is a woman here who runs a salon called Sundara. She is AMAZINGGGGGGG! She does Airbrush Tans. Its SOOO natural looking, not at all streaky and looks INSANELY good. You dont look orange or ridiculously tan all of a sudden you just get this beautiful just came back from vaca glow. Im pale in the winter like very pale and have gone there with no color and walked out looking like amillion bucks! Ive gone in with a tan from the summer because I do get dark in the summer but needed to even out before a wedding and I left there agian feeling GORGEOUS!

its sundaranyc.com And it lasts closer to a week. I believe its $75 but SOOOO SOOO worth it. Shes got nothing but positive reviews on citysearch. Shes truly awesome!

Re: tanning advice

if you go to a tanning bed, talk to the people at the counter and buy some tanning lotion that makes you bronze. get a light version to test. they sell trial packs that will last 1-2 sessions for under $10. dont get the $50 bottle that, undoubtedly, they will try to sell you.

also, if you do burn, STAY AWAY from the ones with tingles. i forgot what they are called. i never actually tried them myself...but whn i inquired about them, the lady at the counter SCARED me. LOL. and i DONT burn that quick!

Re: tanning advice

i have done the spray tan booth and the airbrush tanning. I did both before the weddings and I didn't look streaky....just make sure you use the lotion they give you on your hands and feet otherwise your hands and feet will get orangey/darker than the rest fo your skin.

Re: tanning advice

If you're that fair I would NOT do a tanning bed. You only have a little over a week until the wedding, it really won't do much for you. Before my wedding I did brazil bronze, the woman did go a little too dark on me but I think she misheard what I wanted. I loved my trial so I know they do a good job. You can check out my wedding album to see the results.

Re: tanning advice

Arrrggg. I still have no idea what I want to do. Alot of ppl say the beds will work in a week, others say they won't with only a week left.

Maybe I'll try the mystic spray on Sunday. If I like it I'll go back on Thursday. And if not, I'll just be pale.

I really wish I had paid attention to this 2 weeks ago like I said I would. got too caught up in everything else.

Re: tanning advice

Update - I just came back from the Mystic Spray Tan. I was hesitant but I figured if it looked terrible, it would be gone in a few days.

So far, so good. I have not showered yet, so we will see what the color is this evening and tomorrow.

I was told it is very important NOT to scrub/exfoliate my skin because that will cause the color to come off.

The booth was a bit startling at first. This cold spray kind of comes at you and sprays you up and down. It's a little loud too.

But like I said, so far so good. Thanks for all the advice ladies. 1/2 the people I talked to said I should get a tan, the other 1/2 said I should try the spray. And of course my mom said I was beautiful just the way I was and shouldn't do anything (I love moms).
