Tanning questions

Tanning questions

I need help, I have very fair skin and am sooo pearlly white , I'd love to have some light tan color for my wedding coming up in May but I'm not sure what the best way to go is.

I've never really done artificial tanning and do burn with too much sun. Anyone have any recommendations on tanning creams, spray on tans (I've heard its possible for some of these to rub off on nice white gowns- what a nightmare!) or tanning beds????

Re: Tanning questions

i suggest going to a tanning place that has a spray-tan booth. maybe you could look into that. i go to tanning beds and you could try that too, just let them know you burn pretty easily bc of your fair skin and start off going for a short amt of time and work up. you should really be fine.

i guess it depends on the kind of bed. my sister is fair and did one (spray booth) and came out with a subtle glow, nothing orange, and no rubbing off. but this was in NJ.

i am the same way----very pale and i burn easily. i'm going to get airbrushed, i think. that way, you don't have to lay out in the sun, but you also don't get the streaks from spray-on tanning. i suggest trying it once before the wedding to make sure you like it.

You should use one of those gradual tanning moisturizers...i think natural glow by jergens is supposed to be excellent...Dove makes them too...they even have special fornulas for the face. Make FH rub you down every night so you don't miss any spots!!!

I have gone to Beach Bum and gotten the spray on tan. I would recommend it. In order to reduce the amount of spray that may get onto your dress I suggest not going the day before.

I didn't care for the Jergen's one. It comes out orangey and streakey. That's good for extending a tan after you have a nice base.

I also don't think jergen's would be the best choice for a wedding. jergen's comes off in the shower & then it leaves dirty rings around your knuckes, knees, & ankles. You should def try a spray booth- tell them that you would like the lightest application so that you get a touch of color.

I plan on trying this location a few months before my wedding. They have several locations in long island & manhattan.

IF you go tanning go for a short amount of time the first couple of times. Once your skin gets used to it you wont burn as bad and can up your time in the bed. Also, make sure to buy really good moisturizer-that will help for after if you do get a little red

I'm pretty fair right now as well.....I'm going to use the tanning beds. I used th spray tan for my sisters wedding and was not happy with the way it looked at all.

I'm getting married the sam day as you and I'm going to start tanning at the beginning of March. I'm starting with 1 or two times a week......then moving up from there. I don't want to be super dark on my wedding day....just a bit of a glow!

Good luck!

I am trying out airbrush tan this morning at WWW.FAUXGLOW.COM. I have heard great things about airbrush since it is applied by someone and you can control the color. I will repost and let you know how it goes.

I am fair too (redhead and green eyes).
IF you want to use a bed I would ask them to put you in the least strongest bed. The way I used to do it was I would go for like 6-8 min maybe once to twice a week. I did burn in the begining.
Now I try to go if not once a week once every 2 weeks and I use a stronger bed for no more then 10 min (Most of the time I actually conver my face with the towel after 7 or 8 min b/c that gets the most red). I keep pretty decent color. (If you want theres some pics of me in my albums

OR I would try a spray tan

Persnally, I am anti-spray tan. I used to always tan and I tried that twice and it looked a bit orange-ish and if you don't payt dry down thoroughly after, you will have drip marks its kinda ikky. I say go tanning but go in their lowest bed for 8-10 minutes and see how it goes a few weeks b4 the weddding. and if it works, no burns go once mb twice a week b4 till the big day.

Hope I can help!!

Ladies, thanks for all the great advice. Since I have a few months I think I'll try the airbrush soon to see how I like it. If not, then I'll go to light tanning at the beds.

I can't believe its gettting so close, I'm running out of time to beautify myself!!!

Re: Tanning questions

I don't know about you ladies but I can't stand the SMELL of any fake-tan product. Even the gradual building moisturizer ones have a smell (At least Jergens and L'oreal Sublime Glow do..never tried Dove) I have also done Mystic tan and I could smell it and I felt grimy/dirty for the first two days, and it did not last as long as they said it would.

i tried the jergens one and had nothing but streaks. i was super careful and concentrated on it too!! i used a great self tanner, it was a foam and i cant for the life of me remember the name...sorry. but you can go tanning. let them know you burn very easy and they will put you in a low bed for a shorter time until you are ready to work up to it. and make sure the bulbs arent new-then everyone gets toasty!!
