Tanning Questions

Tanning Questions

Before I ask my questions, let me preface with I know that tanning is dangerous. I'm always super careful about my skin and not burning. I don't want to get premature wrinkles or skin cancer. HOWERVER, before our wedding, FH and I both want to tan to get a glow before our wedding. We'll do it gradually, starting about a month before. I have 2 questions, though...

When you go tanning (in a bed or standup) what do you wear?

Also, I know people put on lotion...what does this lotion do? Is it a sunscreen? Is it a tanning lotion? Do you have to buy it from the tanning salon? Or can I just not wear anything?

Thanks so much in advance!!!

Re: Tanning Questions

Fh and I started this last week bc of all the rain.

1. We go commando. I don't want tan lines..at all. But you can wear anything underwear, a bathing suit...its up to you.

2. I bought a lotion...bc tanning dehydrates your skin so its better...plus it intensifies the tan so u need fewer sessions. I bought it from the salon...it was $52 but the girl gave it to me for $40 and fh and I both use it so its not bad.

Tanning in a bed is bad, so only do it for this! When I tan in a bed I wear nothing. They sell creams that are accelerators. Some have self tanners or bronzers in them, some are just creams to help you tan better. I don't use accelerators, I just put cream on before I go in. I use an SPF stick on my tattoos. Make sure you pay for the 'bronzing' beds only, not burning beds. They are more $$ but better tan, better for you. Good luck!

Hawaiian Tropic also makes indoor tanning lotions that are a ton cheaper than the ones the sell in the salons. I bought mine at Target for like $8 bucks vs. the $60 one the girl in the salon tried to sell me!

It's insane! When I saw the Hawaiian Tropic one I was so happy I didn't spend all that $ on the salon version. I would have been furious if I had bough the other one first!

Re: Tanning Questions

Im someone who tans even though I know its bad I know I know its horrible, but Im an educated tanner... So heres my advice:

1. You def want to do it gradually and be honest about your skin type as well... If you burn easily let them know that this way you can start with the least amount of time and a not so powerful bed... And work your way up to the more powerful ones...

2. You DO want a lotion and yes you want an accelerator, but DEF DONT buy them from the salon they are a TOTAL rip off... You can order them from lotions2go.com SICKKKKKKKK prices! You get the wholesale price... There is an accelerator called Cocunut Da Lime or something (just type in Coconut in the search engine on that site and it brings it up as one of the lotions it finds..). Its a brown bottle... Its AWESOME esepcially for beginners... You do need to be hydrated when you tan and you want to make sure you put on lotion after tanning as well... Like after the shower put on a good lotion something with aloe to help maintain the color.

You want to go tanning every other day to build it up... It also gives your tan 1 day to fully develop then you go again and maintain it and get darker... Once you get a base you can slow down... And like you said its not something you plan on doing forever so that will be fine... And you will get great color...

i've tanned about 4 times so far. wedding is next weekend.

i need a lip wax - - - STAT!!! LOL

Re: Tanning Questions

I do standup and lay down. I like the lay down better- I feel like I get a better tan.

I use the Hawaiian Tropic lotion from target/walmart. Works great and very cheap.

I usually wear boyshorts but thats b/c my bum isnt used to the heat and gets really burned thats too uncomfortable for me. Watch out for the parts that never see the sun!!
