I am a very fair gal...however I would like to have a nice glow on my wedding day. I am considering doing the tanning salon thing but am scared I will be blochy or burned...besides to get me tan I will have to go every two days for like 2 months...expensive! The other option is to do the 'healthy' thing and get a spray on tan at a salon. The thing is, I have never had this done and don't want to look like an orange carrot in my wedding gown. What would you do? Please share your experiences.

Why don't you try the fake one now while you are at your 'palest' (being that its winter) and see if you like it? Then if not you can go the other route.

To be honest...I am scared to try it now too. I have heard horror stories that this stuff makes you orange and can be uneven. However, I would really like to for go the freckles, dry skin, and possible burn from the regular bulbs. Believe it or not, although I have heard lots of things about spray on tan...no one that I know of has tried it. Everyone uses the lamps or the sun.

I've heard some good things about the spray tans -- they customize it to your skin, so you won't be too dark or 'orange.' Someone actually reviewed her experience in a thread. Much better than upping your risk of skin cancer and wrinkes!

I plan on laying out daily as soon as the weather starts getting warmer and then closer to the wedding enhancing with a few visits to the tanning salon- I HATE the fake tan- it only looks good on people who are naturally darker in color. I am pale as a ghost so it looks really blotchy on my skin.

My friend did the fake one for my wedding - she looked awesome! She did it on Tuesday I think, the wedding was Sat. She did look pretty orange the days leading up to it, but that day she looked really great .

i have done both and i am a fan of both. you should definitely try the spray on tan from a tanning salon... it comes out really nice...no splotching. try it soon..it is about 26 dollars and fades in about 3 days.
the fake tan from the tanning salon (with uv light) is good also, but i noticed that it gives a sort of ruddy reddish tone to the skin instead of pure brown. You will get dark in about a week to 2 weeks--- the key is not to wait too long in between sessions.
i personally am planning on doing both for my wedding.. first i will darken up a little bit with the tanning salon and then do the spray on tan over it. Hope this helps!

My friend did the spray tan and when it started to come off it was very splotchy and uneven, not very attractive!
Im also very pale and occasionally go to the tanning salons. Im a big fan of Hollywood tan, ive found them to give me the best color without burning. I think i use HT 54, non reddening bulbs.. Good luck!

I go tanning in the summer time because I suffer from slight psoriasis. On top of that I am pasty white and freckled. Upon recommendation from my dermatologist, I use a stand up tanning booth for minimal time. Last summer, I had a very healthy tan and I didnt burn. The fact is that if you go to a place where you regulate your time and dont BAKE yourself, it is healthier than the sun. With a depleted ozone layer, the earth is not able to filter out the sun's HARMFUL rays. Tanning is FAR from 100% safe, its just a more regulated atmosphere. Do research and make an informed decision. Just dont do it right before your wedding.

If you've never been to a tanning salon before, my only advice is to do it gradually. Although you might not feel hot, or see any results the second you walk out of the booth, the color will eventually come out. If you over-do it because you are anxious, you could get a burn, which stinks!!!
Also, I prefer the stand up booths, as opposed to the beds. I feel I get a better all-around tan, and my underarms get tan too (good for the bouquet toss).
I have never tried the spray-on tan, but would definitely do a trial run beforehand. I've heard good things about Hollywood Tans too.

i went to the salon and tried both. first the spray on... remember the 'FRIENDS' episode where Ross did the same thing but of course funny...? i kept on giggling! as it sprays on it does become chilly so be aware of that. once you're all done you have to wipe off all the excess drips from your body and face in order to have an even tan otherwise the drip marked areas will be most tanned therefore recieving an uneven tan. teh end result.. it was okay. i wasn't so crazy about the experience, tho. the color on my skin seem more fake. so i tried a tanning bed to know the difference. i liked the tanning bed better. less steps to go through, looked better and much more comfortable for me.
if you're pale like me then the first trial should should only take 10 minutes whereas its max is 15 minutes.

After a quick almost brush with skin cancer, I can say that I have given up the tanning salons..I will try the spray on tan this time, but it won't stop me from going out in the sun on vacation or at the beach with the right SPF.

I am also very fair w/ freckles and tried Mystic Tan and it was a disaster. What did work for me at the tanning salon, is the Supernova bed. You're in it for a half hour, and it gives you a nice glow. I only got a little red, but the red went away within a few hours (sounds so healthy, right?) I do that before any big events like weddings, vacations, etc.....

I am very pale with dark brown hair. There have been cases of skin cancer in my family, so I do not lay out and would never subject my skin to a tanning bed.
Self or spray tanning work great, as long as you put it on correctly and don't try to get too dark. Most tan Hollywood people and models use spray tan because of the damaging effects of UV rays.
If you are concerned about turning orange, I would go to a top spa, like Bliss, which is more expensive (about $75.00) but you will have a more natural looking tone. This is what I plan to do.
