Re: Tanning/Hair highlights when your PG???

tanning is a no-no and hilighting is questionable (depending on your dr IMO) I am 19 weeks and hi-light every 6 wks or so. Foil hilighting doesn't touch your scalp so it doesn't get into your system like coloring would.

I agree. I look so pale it is driving me nuts but in the long run it is for a great purpose.

Tell me about this lotion!!! I have not heard about it! I've already been to the beach on the sunny days, can't wait for that summer glow, I wish we could use self tanner, it would make life so much easier! I don't think there has been 1 summer since I was 14 where I was not bronzed by mid may!! I can't wait for beach days!!!

I know - my face, neck and the front of my arms are the only tan parts on my body from the few sunny days we've had It's the Jergens Natural Glow lotion - it's a lotion with a self tanner in it but it's TAN - not orange. I've looked everywhere for it...I need it to even out!!!

I was advised NO self tanner. Doctor said there is not enogh research as so how far the product penetrates through the skin.

I was told by my doc that foil highlights are ok. (My girl comes to my house so I can make sure the house is well ventaliated)

And that tanning was ok also. Just if I am outside to use a SPF (duh!) and if I choose to use a salon to make sure I used alot of lotion, drank extra water, and never go for the full time also I was told never to use a laydown and only a standup and while using the standup to not lock my knees.

In their opinion tanning is bad for your skin but not for pregnancy it doesn't cook your inside but it does get you hot if your not careful and hydrated. So as long as you don't too often. (They meant more for special occasions or to just make yourself feel a bit better during the blah months you are fine.

My OBGYN's clinic believes in everything in moderation. Also since we live in florida sometimes my car is hotter then a tanning bed would ever be as well as just walking around.

I was only warned against anything but tylenol, no cold cuts, no hot dogs, no bleach, no alcohol .....

I hightlight my hair, I just didn't in the first trimester. My doctor said no-no to tanning and that there wasn't any research on self-tanners. She said once the summer comes I can absolutely go to the beach, just stay hydrated and use sunscreen.....praying for nice weather so I can get my pasty a$$ some color

good self tanners only penetrate the top 2-3 layers of your skin - it doesn't get into your bloodstream.

still, in years to come they'll link self tenners to the increase in autism, I'd rather not risk it especially since there is not enough research. They have some really good bronzing powders that just give you a glisten, and I feel safer with those. Just powder your face, shoulders, neck, and chest.

I agree. Each doctor is different, ask your dr. what they thing. Tanning is a def. no as far as I know. I highlight but not full color and the dye doesnt touch my scalp. So I'm guessing this is OK but when it comes time that Im PG I will ask my OBGYN. Heck, I can live with being pale and having bad roots if it meant I was getting a baby!

I skipped both while I was PG. I just figured why risk it?
