Did anyone get to have a tasting before they left a deposit ?
I read some bad reviews of my perspective hall (that I love) - and I want to try the food before I make a decision. What would you do?

Re: Tasting before deposit
I absolutely refused to leave a deposit before a tasting and my hall was totally accomodating to that and had no problem giving me a tasting before I left the deposit

Re: Tasting before deposit
When I called my hall back to ask more questions he said you can bring in the deposit to hold your date and when you come back (to NY--since I wasn't living there yet) you can taste the food if you don't like it I will give you all your money back. But we LOVED the food!!!

Re: Tasting before deposit
That was the only way I would leave a deposit or book is if I tasted the food first! I went back with my parents and FI and we were impressed and booked right there.

Re: Tasting before deposit
We had a choice, wedecided to do it later, because i have heard good things & we were kinda in a hurry. ( It was around the holidays & I didn't have time to schedule a tasting) Some places won't do it, but its rare.

We had that choice but never took it up. So we have not tasted the food at all and probably won't until that day. Im so ..blah.. about tasting food. I heard great things about SMCC so that works for me. It was the place I really liked and as long as they have a good rep for food Im ok. There's BOUND to be someone who doesnt like it, so Im not stressing on it.
I've been to so many conferences and conventions held and hotels and catering halls Im in an overkill as far as food goes. I just don't care. As long as we can offer a choice and offer a decent cocktail hour Im alright.

the way my hall worked was we could get our deposit back is we did not like the food. we heard nothing mut good things about the food there so we were confidant, as i am sure they were, but we did not have our tasting until after the deposit!

Re: Tasting before deposit
We didn't taste first. I had heard good things about of CH and was in a rush to get things done. (Since I really wanted to get married in Oct. '04, I only had 9 months to plan the wedding.)

I had my tasting at JT last year and I called my BM and told him what day I was available to come in and he told me what time. It was setup in the cocktail room.....But be prepared to eat they give you so much food and wine...SOO GOOD!!!

Re: Tasting before deposit
Chateau La Mer let us have a tasting before putting our deposit down. I don't think I would book someplace w/out having a tasting unless I had been to a wedding there already.

Re: Tasting before deposit
I would def have a food tasting before you put a deposit..
Food is very important, especially for your guests.. so make sure it's good..before you sign or commit to any hall.. JMO
