Tastings

This is adumb question, but do you pay when you go for a tasting to choose your menu?

Re: Tastings

It's not a dumb question -- it's a great question! I have no idea!!! I'm doing my tasting on June 20th. I'm going to email my contact and find out this week, though...

I wonder if it varies from venue to venue. Looking forward to seeing the answers and I'll let you know mine once I get it.

Re: Tastings

I have gone to different tastings at two different halls and didn't pay at any. For the first one though at the Swan club we only tipped the waiter a very nice tip since the meal was free and since he served us our meal and drinks. The second one we didnt tip anyone because it was a buffet.

Normally the caterers/restaurant do not charge you since you are booking the service with them. The tasting are complimentary so that you can give your feedback and critique of what you like and don't like so the chef can work with you to give exactly what you want for the menu. When I booked with my caterer who also owns the restaurant, we had reserved our tasting for 6 people though 2 couldn't make it. So make sure all of the people show up for your tasting. I would recommend inviting strictly family members like your parents/FH parents/siblings.

Re: Tastings

We didn't pay or tip. We might have tipped had they actually had all of the food they were supposed to have for us or had it not taken three times as long to taste less than half of the food. BUT the food that we did taste was amazing. And one day when we were in the area we went to talk around and ran into the food manager who told us that the wedding currently going on was currently making the soup we missed out on trying and got us some and comped our drinks :) So that made up for it.

Oh, but also that was for Danfords, I don't know what anyone else does. They would bring out one full portion of everything and we shared. They did keep serving us different wines as well though.

Its a great question!

The answer SHOUDL be no. I have heard that some restaurants charge for a tasting if you are THINKING about using the place for a wedding.

But if you have booked, and have a signed contract the should NOT charge you. Its part of the whole service of the wedding.

But it is a GREAT question and I hope other people take note that there is no such thing as a silly question

Re: Tastings

We paid for a tasting at DeSeversky Center. We didn't pay for the tasting for Prince George Ballroom in NYC, which was at Bryant Park Cafe and was simply AMAZING, like a $400 dinner comped. Sick! We had our tasting for the Royalton the night we booked. So it was free, but we wrote them a check for the deposit, so that's how it was!

Re: Tastings

We really enjoyed all of the food and service offered at our RH. We tipped about $50.

Re: Tastings

I emailed my bridal manager (or whatever you call her) and she said the tasting is free and it's done in her office, which is downstairs in the cottage. She said up to 6 people, usually bride, groom, parents. Since FH's parents can't come, she said I can bring my brother as our 5th person. So that's nice. I'm excited, but it's not for another MONTH!!

Re: Tastings

I had to pay for both tastings we went to, but *really* it was a showcase, and we had to pay the admission, because our RH doesn't provide tastings because you can go to the restaurant. We got an accidental tasting of the Greek food when we went to drop off a payment because we expressed our concern with not being able to taste that because its not served at the restaurant, and they just so happened to have a Greek wedding that night, so we lucked out, and didn't have to pay.
