tattoos...

tattoos...

So my sister (MOH) just informed me that she has no intentions on covering up tattoos for my wedding. She says that when you pick bridesmaids, you know what you're getting...and that me suggesting that I would make her cover a tattoo is bridezillaish...

SHE HASN'T GOTTEN A TATTOO YET!!!! She has none, so her point about knowing the person, yadayada is invalid! She's planning on getting one tomorrow. I'm really sad because when she got married, I did nothing to upset her. If she told me something, I followed it. I told her it would be like me dying my hair for her wedding, to which she replied, 'I wouldn't have cared.' The thing is...she totally would've and there's nothing I can do about it now.

Then she added that she's going to have at least 2 by my wedding!

We've had this debate here... If she doesn't plan to wait until after the wedding, I would wait and see WHERE she's got it and how big it is. No sense getting upset now, it hasn't happened.

None of my bridesmaids have tattoos, but some of my GMs do, and whatever... it's not going to ruin anything. They're proud of their tattoos, and it's not like all 5000000 of your pictures are going to show the tattoos.

I wouldn't be upset, JMO.

I'm more upset about the way she's acting. I covered the one that would've shown at her wedding. I just feel like she's not taking into consideration how I feel. I like tattoos. I have 3 of them and plan on another before the wedding, but mine can all be covered very easily. FH has huge tattoos, but they'll all be covered. It's just what I want for my pictures...

Well if you covered yours for her wedding then she should do the courtesy for you then.

Although I would say - bring the tats out - its who you are...

ahh that tattoo debate...here we go...

i hate to say it but no one is gonna put their life on hold because you are getting married. you cant be upset/mad whatever at her for living her life and getting a tattoo. who cares if it shows? everyone and their mother has a tattoo now-a-days. if you dont have one you are the unique one. if it shows in pictures then it shows in pictures,...is it really gonna ruin your day THAT much? do you really think on the day you are getting married you are going to be thinking 'oh wow you can see my sisters tattoo'

Exactly.
I have a couple and I'm planning to airbrush mine at this point, but that could change depending on the dress I choose; my sister is covered - COVERED - with ink and if she chooses to cover them up, then that's cool. If not, that's cool too.
My mom even has some. (My dad too, but his suit will keep his covered). We are one inked up family.

I do see what you mean about how she said you know what you're getting into when you ask people to be in your BP, but as CloudNine said, people aren't going to put their lives on hold for your wedding. If my sister shows up with more ink, blue hair, and three more (yes, more...she has a couple) facial piercings, I'd embrace her for who she is.

Trust me, the focus of the day will be on the celebration, not someone's tattoos.

ita with jackie....its a tattoo, nothing you can do about it....i mean i doubt she is getting some huge cougar going across her chest. if its really that horrible you could suggest the airbrushing but really its just a tattoo, besides no one will be looking at her, all eyes should be on the bride.

I agree with Jackie..people cannot be expected to put their lives on hold for your wedding. I'm sorry if that seems harsh, but its true. It's like girls telling their BMs they cant be pregnant. Or telling girls not to cut their hair, dye thier hair etc. You should want someone to be in your wedding party because of who they are, not because of how their body looks.

I would be upset too. If it is something that is bothering you then your sister should do the kind and decent thing and cover it up.
You're not telling someone to put their life on hold by asking to use makeup and cover up a tattoo...

ITA- I feel like people have to go on living their lives, ya know?
I feel bad that your feelings are hurt though, and I hope that everything works out b/t you and your friend.

Re: tattoos...

I kind of feel both of you guy's sides. I understand you wanting there not to be any exposed tatts, but I also feel that you know whatt you are getting when you pick your BM's. However that fact that you say she doesn't have one yet makes me think that she can wait. I myself have a tattoo on my left should that is very girlie (a heart) and I have no intention of covering it up like its not there no matter what anyone has to say. It is apart of me and I am not gonna pretend to be someone else on my wedding day. I also have BMs with Tatts and some in not so desireable places like legs and ankles, especially since I am picking tea length dresses. I would love to be able to say 'cover them things up'. However I feel it would be hipocrytical of me to ask them to do that when I am not doing the same. On another not while visiting with the photographer I cam across a photo album with a lady who had adorned the outline of her tatt with crytals making it look very dressed up. So that is an option.

Re: tattoos...

Please let me clarify ladies --

I am not necessarily upset about the fact that there will be a tattoo...I just did not like the way she handled the situation. I was her MOH and I jumped through hoops for her because she is my sister and my best friend. She was super bridezilla towards the end because she got into 2 car accidents (each on the night of a bachelorette party...we had 2), broke her camera, and had many other unfortunate things happen to her. Each time, I did whatever I could to make it better. I was expressing my opinion to her today and she was like, 'don't you think you're being bridezillaish?'

I'm more upset by that. I hoped that she would be nothing but supportive. If she told me to shave my head for her wedding so she'd look better, I would've done it.

Re: tattoos...

I see both sides. That being said, I dont really like tattoos, so if she was getting a huge one that would be extremely visible and distracting in photos, I would probably be annoyed. My sister has multiple tattooos, but the only one that is big is on her back and wont show : )

If she's getting something on her foot, hand, writs etc...not sure I would mind it

no but you are pretty much saying 'i dont like the way you look so cover up a part of yourself'
what if someone said to you for their wedding 'i dont like your hair brown...you should dye it blonde or red' or 'i think your boobs are too big, lets wrap you up and strap them down to make them look smaller'
they are pretty much telling you that they dont like your body and what you have on it. no one has the right to judge your body decisions. its not a tattoo...its part of who that person is...its in tehir skin so just consider it their body. its not something that should just be hidden.
