Taught for the first time today!!

Ok so I know for all you teachers this is unexciting... but my co-operating teacher sprung it on me and after I got over the nerves it was highly exciting. The kids were good for me and actually answered questions, which seems to be out of character for them. Its so different to really get up there!!!

Yup, I started on Monday!

I remember the very first time i ever stood in front of my 3rd graders when i was student teaching full time.

it is the most terrifying/exhilarating feeling in the world. it gets easier, i promise. And don't be afraid to joke around with the kids. I gave some of my kids nicknames. they loved it.. they felt special. and the ones that didnt get nicknames got other things to make them feel special. it really reinforces the bond.

I remember conducting my first orchestra 7 years ago as a student teacher. . .so scary and exhilarating!!! And now I get to do it every day!!!

actually count me out...im realistic and know that teaching aint gunna happen!

i liked the 11th graders MUCH better than the 9th graders...where are you student teaching?

LOL, sad as it is, I welcome the challenge of getting a teaching job after trying my luck in the very closed to outsiders film industry. At least they actually give normal people a job in education. In film and television you have to have the right relatives... talent, education and smarts be damned. Compared to that any industry is easy to get in.

Though it makes me mad that I did that to myself, because when I graduated undergrad it was when they were begging for teachers because they were forcing retirements. If only I had gone right into it, I would be on my 6th or 7th year. UGGG!!!!

Ladies, I must give you the best advice I've ever heard to get over nerves esp. when you are at the student teaching stage- a teacher told me this when I was observing WAYYYY backkkkk even a year before I did my student teaching... he said, 'There's no need to be nervous... always remember YOU KNOW MORE THAN THEY DO' and I'll never forget it- and it always stuck with me esp at the beginning when was soooooooooo nervous!!! You really learn SO MUCh from teaching yourself than what you learned in the classroom... thats great everything went well today- CONGRATS!!!

yay! congrats! so glad it went well.
the more u do it the easier it gets to stand up there and eventually becomes second nature. you will even stop getting nervous... well until you are being observed that is. I dont teach kids but i do teach adults.
