So FBIL's gf apparently bought a dress for the wedding way back in the early Fall 2008, which is great, but I found out now that it's 'taupe'. Being the control freak I am, I tried to find the dress online, because tan is one thing, but taupe can be a bit light. Of course, I can't find the dress based on the description and it being BCBG. BUT the color that they use as taupe is like a hair darker than ivory I'm going out on a limb by assuming it's the same color as these other taupey dresses they have in their current collection.
I know that she spent a LOT of money on the dress. Would you say something about it if you were in the same position? I feel we got closer this past weekend at the shower we went to, but we're by no means close enough for me to be blunt about it. I don't know how I feel about her wearing it if it's the color that I'm seeing online. Supposedly it has a black band around the waist, but it's still a long almost ivory gown. I don't think I'm out of line to be a little peeved by that.
I just don't understand what the aversion to color is. First FMIL wanted to wear ivory/latte/cream/white top, now people are running around in ivory gowns. I make sure I go so out of the way to wear bright or dark colors to other people's wedding! I can't even imagine showing in anything remotely light.

Bump...I guess the lack of response means that I'm just thinking too much again

Re: Taupe?
i'm not sure what the color looks like, but if it was light I would be annoyed too. That said, as everyone will say, you won't even notice the day off! Espec if she has a black sash on it. TRY not to stress too much, I would be annoyed too right now, but there are bigger fish to fry :)

Re: Taupe?
If you look at my wedding pics in my review, my bridesmaids wore Taupe dresses. But taupe can look different depending on the material. My BM wore tafeta.

If you aren't that close with her, I would just let it go. You aren't going to be taking pictures with her, so it shouldn't be a big deal. Everyone that has a brain knows that you don't wear white, ivory, or a light pale color to a wedding. So, she's going to look like the @ss!

See, if it was the same color as your BM dress, that would be perfectly fine...I just fear it's this color based on the description:
That's the dress it seems based on description, only the spring/summer shortened version. And I really don't know if I'm cool with that light a color

If that is the color, you have every right to be pissed. People need to get a clue and realize you should not wear anything close to white to a wedding.

Maybe we should ship her off to the land of the white weddings with my FMIL!

Re: Taupe?
your getting married in december ...why would she wear taupe in december??? i would think summer weddings you would run a greater risk of guests wearing a light color, but not in december that would bother me too
as far as to say something.....i dont know...that depends on how close you are
i tend to just be a chicken when it comes to issues like that...i would get mad and eventually forget because in the grand scheme of things...on you wedding day this will not be a thought

Re: Taupe?
Hmm... maybe you could convince someone to have her wear a pashmina over it that will set her apart from the 'stars' of the wedding... (namely YOU!!!)
Hopefully when she says Taupe, she means more like a beige / light brown color. There's enough time that maybe you could even find a way to see the dress beforehand so you won't have to worry about it at all anymore.

Re: Taupe?
I wouldn't worry too much about it - unnecessary stress. Besides, I have a few taupe items and they are all a light tan with a slight pink hue - not close at all to an off white

Re: Taupe?
sigh ... my FMIL is wearing this exact color ... so Im not going to give you any good advice because I was upset about it too.. The only saving grace of her dress is that is totally heavily beaded with taupe and bronze beads so hopefully in the light it will look more brown than taupe, but its doubtful.. we will see... at this point I have to let it go

ITA! I just will never understand why poeple think this is okay! I know some poeple are like oh dont worry they wont be looking at them, blah, blah, but its still upsetting and seriosuly I just think its plain old rude and I would never do that to another bride

Re: Taupe?
My BM dresses are Taupe by Bill Levkoff and its def not ivory at all. Its more of a darker tan with a hint of gold in it. I wouldnt classify it as ivory at all... but then again it depends on who makes the dress because one taupe might be different than another taupe. I hate how people seem to think its okay to wear those colors for showers or weddings. I would never do that to someone.... I think everyone knows the deal and I dont care how much you spend... its rude to do that. There are tons of colors out there- they can choose something else. Sorry Ali

This is a great point... and this is why it was bad if your FMIL wanted to wear ivory or white.. ... but I'd definitely be pissed, too.
I mean, if you guys got a bit closer this weekend, maybe you can act all girly excited about the wedding and be like, 'oh -what does your dress look like?' and then she's say, 'It's this pretty BCBG number that I got back in NOvember and it has a black sash with ivory long skirt and halter top (or whatevs the top looks like)' and then you'd say, 'Oh - is it like...white ish?' And your clever tone will completely make her reflect on her dress. and then all would be well! Sound good?

Re: Taupe?
Taupe is not white, it's close but it's not white. I wouldn't be mad, I don't think it's worth it to get frustrated over such a small detail. Everyone is going to know you're the bride, don't worry about someone in a dress that's close to a shade of white.

Re: Taupe?
BCBG Taupe is a champagne color -- next to Ivory there is a big difference. I know this because my MIL wanted a BCBG dress for my wedding in that color and the only way I convinced her not to get it is when I held the swatch of my champagne wedding gown next to it and it was the same color.
Second -- you can't control what anyone else wears to the wedding so don't try to. And don't stress over it. No one is going to notice or care. She is not going to be stealing your spot light and she obviously cares enough about your wedding that she has already bought her dress.
Just because you know what she is wearing doesn't mean that three other girls aren't going to show up in the same color.
Let it go -- you have too many other thing to take care of and worry about to add something like this to it.

Re: Taupe?
I don't think you can control what anyone is wearing but, what I can say is...everyone always talks about the person wearing white at a wedding and it is never good.
There is no one who could take attention off of you, unless her taupe dress lights up and turns into a car!
