teacher help

Does anyone know of any schools that are hiring right now for 2007-2008? I just finished my 2nd yr. at a private school but since my wedding's in Nov., I feel like I should be looking in a public school for more stability. I'm really torn b/t staying where I am or just take the chance in going for public schools. I'm scared that what if I don't find a teaching position by Sept., I don't want my FH be burdened w/ the wedding expenses. i don't know if I should stay or move on?

I know that is a really hard decision to make, whether to stay put or try and move on...I am approaching my 3rd year teaching in a public school and there is no hope of anything permanent opening up next year....so I will just hope that another year leave opens up. Good luck to you whatever you decide!

Re: teacher help

I was at a Catholic School for 4 years before I went into Public school. I loved my little catholic school and was petrified to leave!
However, it was the best move I've ever made!
I love my new school (not really new, been there 2 years), and being more financially secure has made all of the difference!
My FH just got into public school as well.
Keep plugging away at those on-line resumes---something will happen!
If not for next year, at least you are in a place you love!

Re: teacher help

what do you teach?

the job market is really tough for teachers right now, but it is easier or harder depending on what you teach.

why don't you look for jobs and send out some resumes and see what happens? a lot of people do that and don't quit their current school until they get another position - that's why so much hiring happens during the summer.

however, to be honest, as somebody who is currently job searching as a teacher, I really wouldn't recommend leaving your current position unless you're REALLY unhappy there or teach one of the more highly in demand subjects (science, math, etc), because it's an incredibly difficult job market on long island.

I teach at an elementary level. I really like where I am-great staff and principal, but I sort of wish I can find a position in the public school for more stability. That's my dilemma..
