TEACHER invite question

I am close w/a group of teachers at my school, but not all. Are any of you inviting a few and not others? There are about 20 teachers and I don't want to hurt anyone, but I don't want to invite those I'm not close with either.

I'm having the same situtation because I have a relationship with all the teachers but am only close with a few. I am going to invite only the teachers I spend time with out of school. Are you inviting the principal. People say I should.

I am not tenured and don't want to step on any toes, so I will be inviting everyone in my dept. If your wedding will be over the summer, I would say don't worry about it, but I would be wary about inviting some and not others during the school year, that's just me personally though.

I think I'm going to invite the principal, because I have a pretty good relationship w/her. My weddiing is over the summer, but I still know that people will talk about it. I'm so confused!!! And some of them are asking me when it is, which I think is their way of telling me they want to come!

I am inviting the principal and AP since I was told that was the thing to do..also, I am only inviting those who I really am connected with...teachers all know how much weddings cost and what teachers make, so anyone who is insulted is not really your friend, are they? ;) Also, I second the notion about the wedding either being over the summer or not..mine is...

I am in a similar situation but I am an Asst. Principal. The problem is that the people I am inviting are out of classroom people mostly and I do not directly supervise them. One of the teachers that i do supervise basically invited herself and i feel somewhat uncomfortable. I mean, I am inviting the other AP, my principal, the secretaries, guidance counselors, and other non-classroom teachers. I dont want to hurt her feelings but I was not planning on inviting her. I have a while, so I guess I will wait and see.

I'm not inviting any of the teachers I currently work with. I am inviting four that I used to work with. Honestly, I really don't think that it is necessary for anyone to invite the principal b/c it's 'the thing to do'. I don't think you should invite anyone that you don't have a relationship with outside of school. I also feel that it puts the principal in an awkward position. Especially if you are new or newish to the district. You have a boss/employee relationship, not a friendship. It's different if they are close, personal friends of yours. Just my opinion.

we have about the same number of teachers in our school. i invited my principal, one secretary, and two teachers, all of whom i feel close to.

Re: TEACHER invite question

I am not inviting ANYONE from school. it was sa tough decision to make, but my guest list is soo tight (large family) and a SMALL budget. i wanted to, but then it's hard to include some and not all. all the people i am close with and spend time with outside of school understand the situation... everyone understands because i did put on some feelers because they knows it's comign up (I am getting married over the feb. break). they are being so awesoem and throwing me a shower, but understand that i can't invite extra people. many of asked to come to the ceremony and i will give them that infromation.

so to answer your question: although i would like to I am NOT inviting anyone from school. i hope i don't regret it, but i would have to invite my grade leevl (close with all) and most of the special ed. dept (many of whom i am close with) and i just can't afford 20 people and spouses i don't know,.

Re: TEACHER invite question

one of the teachers is one of my best friends and my BM
then i am inviting 3-4 other teachers and their spouses - its basically just our group - most of the teachers in my school are nasty except them

Re: TEACHER invite question

I'm a guidance counselor in a small school (280 kids, 20 teachers). I don't have a department; it's just me and a social worker. I'm not tenured either, but regardless, I don't think I'm expected to invite everyone. I'm inviting the principal and AP because I have a good relationship with them. I'm inviting two or three teachers that I'm closest to, and that's it. I think people understand that weddings cost $$$, I wouldn't sweat it.

Re: TEACHER invite question

I am really trying to figure out what to do in this situation. I just started at a new school this year. I haven't really developed a relationship with any of my colleagues, but it is a small school with a staff of about 20 teachers. I would love to invite them, but I don't want to leave anyone out, and there's no way we can afford to invite that many more people. FH really says to not invite any of them, and I'm leaning towards agreeing with him. Inviting only the principal would be awkward because I don't really know her that well...I'm at a loss b/c my wedding is in May, so school will still be in session, and everyone knows about the wedding..

I'm in the same situation....I'm new to the school this year and I know for sure I can invite at least a few of the fellow teachers I have lunch with...but there's lots of people I adore at the school! I'm just gonna wait out the rest of the year and see how friendships develop. Not really sure if I should invite my principal, even though she has been a HUGE supporter. Luckily my wedding is in August...but still, I'll come back in September and have to face those who expected to be invited but weren't....

Inviting co-workers is ALWAYS a sticky situation, unfortunately.

Re: TEACHER invite question

I am having a relatively small wedding (80 ppl) and am only inviting my one best friend at the school (the only teacher I socialize with outside of school). I have never hung out with my principal outside of school and only know him from when he observes me, and it would be a weird bit of brown-nosing if I invited him.

You shuold definitely invite the principal and any AP's out of courtesy, they probably will not show anyway...

Re: TEACHER invite question

I actually have a similiar problem. Throughout the course of the day ( I am high school self contained) I have about 8 ta's and aides. Plus there are 2 other teachers in the program that I teach with. I am only friends with one of my ta's that I love to death. This is only my second year. I am inviting my co teacher for my inclusion period, my friend another teacher, 2 teachers I teach with, my dept head, and my one ta I love. I know she is tactful and won't say anything to anyone, but all these people are married, so already I am up to 12 people!!!! Crazy. Some people you have to invite (like my dept head) and some people you want to invite (friends). I would say not everyone needs to be invited and most people understand.

Re: TEACHER invite question

Would you say it is tacky to invite other teachers w/out their spouses or a date? If they'd all be seated at the same table, is this acceptable or just rude?

Re: TEACHER invite question

I don't think that it is necessary to invite your principal or AP out of courtesy. I agree with the bride who wrote that it's not necessary to invite anyone because it's the thing to do. Don't forget that if you feel you 'should' invite them, they may feel that they 'need' to go...and your guest list just jumped up a huge number!! I agree that it's hard to 'pick and choose' people to invite...I have a grade level of 13, but I am inviting only 2 who I am close with (and I speak to out of school), and my TA, who is like my second mother! I think when it comes down to it, you have to remember what everyone keeps saying about every issue that comes up on the boards...it's your wedding! Do what you want to do...invite those who you would really miss if they weren't there on your special day! I believe that nowadays, people understand that we have big families and do not have an unlimited budget, and they will be happy for you either way!
