do you think it is too soon to take a student teacher if you are in your 4th year? I was approached twice today about taking one this fall. I just dont know if it is too soon....

Re: Teachers....
I took one my fourth year. It wasn't bad. I've been teaching for seven years now and I've only had two student teachers. I find them to be a lot of work. I have also had student observers which only come in once a week. I like that better. I prefer student teachers in the spring. The fall is tough because you are trying to get use to your new class and all. Good luck in whatever you choose.

Re: Teachers....
If you were approached by someone, they feel you are ready, go for it. A girl in my department had a student teacher and this was her tenure year.
I had a student teacher this past fall and I have to say it is a growing experience for you also. When you see them doing certain things it makes you evaluate your teaching also.
Deb is right, the fall is a little awkward only because you don't know the kids yet and when they leave the kids are more used to the student teacher than you. Though I was always there and still interacted with the kids they were still in the beginning more bonded with her.
Go for it!
