But weren't you once a teacher? So you of all people should know that just because you may be sitting at your 'desk' doesn't mean the kids are not getting a good education. It just bothers me when administration picks on small things like that when there are such bigger issues, and when you used the word 'yell' well, its just demeaning.
yes, i was a teacher and i NEVER sat at my desk except when i was on a prep and that is the g-d's honest truth believe me, i know the obstacles and i deal with them everyday and the #1 priority is instruction like i said before i dont know about your administration, i dont pick on small things and my staff loves and appreciates me - they ALL invited themselves to my wedding!! they tell me everyday how they never want me to leave and if i become a principal to take me with them!! and now, as an administrator, i am only at my desk after dismissal , otherwise im in the classrooms, working with kids, meeting with teachers, giving demo lessons, meeting with parents, etc.

thats great, I am glad your staff loves you. I just would not appreciate my administrator yelling at me for sitting at my desk and I dont think many other people would like it either. Now I am done because It is getting late and I need to go to sleep so I can be a good teacher tomorrow. Just kidding. Goodnight

school in VA began on mOnday i am exhausted! I wish i was teaching in ny again we don't get a feb break (all around less days off) we end a few days early but i could use a few more days without kids :)

thanks andrea im not one to argue, really but i just had to state my case from a supervisor's point of view - and think of yourself as a parent, do you want to walk into your child's classroom and see the teacher behind a desk not 'teaching'? its funny because people say theres nothing wrong with it, then why do you stand up when an administrator walks in the room?
anyway, thanks andrea - im done venting now!! lol

well, for obvious reasons i am not saying my school, i am in region 5 i got my masters in admin from bank street and I love what i do, though there are days that i miss teaching. this is my 4th year as an AP, but my 6th year out of the classroom
