I actually sit at my desk alot. I teach 7th grade English and a lot of the times the kids are writing essays and I have to confrence with them. That all gets done at my desk. And when they are taking tests I do not like to walk around the room b/c a lot of my students have test anxiety (Iteach special ed) And it just makes them more nervous. So I sit at my desk.

um, that depends on the situation - not in front of children! i am a professional and expect the teachers to be as well - my job first and foremost is the kids - they have and always will come first so if something is wrong, illegal, or inappropriate then yes, i have yelled - usually more of a 'stern talking to'

Re: Teachers!
and the truth is, i am the first step in correcting any issue and if i dont and the principal sees or hears, or the superintendent sees or hears, than im the one that will hear it and sorry, that wont happen!!

That is understandable, but we are talking about sitting at our desk, don't you think there are bigger fish to fry than giving teachers sh*t for sitting. JMO

Re: Teachers!
that depends what the students are doing sitting at a desk is not teaching - children need guidance and support and im sure there are students in the class that cannot work independently and need additional support

I think that is completely a class to class or day to day issue, you can't say that sitting is not teaching, I have done some of my best teaching from my nice comfy chair

I agree Jess...with some classes I can't stand still for a second and with others I can literally sit the whole time and they are my top performers!!!!

Re: Teachers!
But weren't you once a teacher? So you of all people should know that just because you may be sitting at your 'desk' doesn't mean the kids are not getting a good education. It just bothers me when administration picks on small things like that when there are such bigger issues, and when you used the word 'yell' well, its just demeaning.
