Ok, so I already wrote a post about my FH's parents allowing us to use their timeshare for our honeymoon. We do not know where we will go yet but there is a problem. I just graduated with my degree in English Secondary Education. Right now, I am on sub lists and waiting to get called. I start a leave replacement position in March. I don't know what I am doing in the summer besides maybe my current part-time job. I am hoping to get a full-time teaching job in September. However, FH and I had originally planned to wait to take our honeymoon on spring break. I was going to wait and see what district I was in and then plan our honeymoon for the next break after our March 28th wedding. But, I am told that with timeshares, we need to book this right away. Should I book it and then ask for time off at a new job? Should we just postpone our honeymoon for a few months and book it for the summer? I need some advice, please! Thanks!

Re: Teachers and the honeymoon! Help please!
I am a teacher as well and I/m getting married in may and we are waiting until july to take our hooneymoon. I would wait until spring break for your honeymoon usually all school districts have similar spring breaks. It think you should wait becuase you will be new at school and you will not be tenured.

I think you are right! I just started looking up calendars of schools in the area lol and it seems like a lot of schools are off the week of my birthday in April! I might book it in summer just to be safe but it would be cool to go the week of my bday and it would be much closer to our wedding. Thanks for sharing!

Re: Teachers and the honeymoon! Help please!
We got married 11/3. I took 3 days off from work (Friday before and Monday and Tuesday after). We went on our honeymoon over the December break.
After the wedding, we stayed at a bed and breakfast on Cape Cod for two days and then came home.
I didn't actually mind postponing the honeymoon by a few weeks. Gave us something to look forward to after all the wedding planning was over. Also, I was soooo tired after the wedding! All I wanted to do was sleep.

I would say postpone it until the summer. If you are in your first year in a new school and take a week off for your honeymoon - you most likely won't be asked back. Knowing a lot of school administrators, I know they don't look kindly on first year teachers taking days off like that because there's 10 more people that could take the same position and not take days off.
Maybe you could take a weekend trip somewhere as a mini-honeymoon sometime closer to your wedding...

Re: Teachers and the honeymoon! Help please!
My FH and I are both teachers and we specifically planned our wedding during the summer so we would not have to take any days off. This being my first year, I would never consider taking so much time off for a vacation - and I am sure my school district would not be very happy with me. MY FH is in his 4th year and he wouldn't even consider it.
The job market in education today is so tough, once you catch a break with a leave replacement you shouldn't do anything to jeopardize it. This leave replacement could turn into a full time position or lead to a great recommendation for you in the future.
Good luck with your decision making!

You should definitely postpone the honeymoon. Most LI schools will not look favorably on you taking a week off during your first year. Heck, even if you had tenure they would frown upon it. If you want to be asked back for a second year, definitely postpone it. JMHO

As a teacher, I would agree that it wouldn't be in your best interest to take time off from a newly started job. In our district, they seem to keep an eye on who takes days off, especially if they are extended weekends or holidays.

Hello! I am also a teacher in Westchester and I am getting married in September. My FH and I decided to wait until Christmas break and go away then. We are leaving Christmas Day in the afternoon and heading to Hawaii. We are really looking forward to spending our first Christmas with just us. But, yes, we will be having Christmas dinner on the plane. LOL

We're getting married April 19th purposefully because it's spring break and I'm a teacher. Most districts have off this week. Check the district where you have your maternity leave position and book now!!

l would def wait until summer. FH and I are both teachers and just as many of you girls are saying we planned our wedding in the summer simply so we could take a long HM (hawaii for 12 days!! yey can't wait!) It's too much of a risk to plan it for days during the school year when you don't know what school calendar you will be following. Good Luck!!

I'm a dance teacher but I have the same schedule as you guys and I specifically set my wedding during the summer to make sure that I would have time for the wedding and the honeymoon back to back. However since you are doing march...maybe you could just wait until June or July to do your honeymoon or do it over one fo those breaks.

My FH is a teacher, and he's taking a few days off for our Oct. wedding. We are going to do an overnight at a bed and breakfast as a mini moon and take our honeymoon in dec or the spring when he has off.

Me too....I have a week before the wedding and a week after the wedding before summer school starts. We may take our HM in August after summer school is over. But we have this weird timeshare thing, too, and I can't figure it out. I'm really stressed about it. How does your timeshare work?

Re: Teachers and the honeymoon! Help please!
I would definitely book during the summer. I am a teacher, and we are getting married in Feb, but we going on our honeymoon in the summer. Teachers do not take off extra time for vacation. Some teachers get a couple personal days, some don't, but its never more than 2 or 3 days that you are allowed.
And as a new teacher, there are so many stresses, to miss a week will be very hard on you!

If you're a leave replacement in LI, you know how hard it is to get a job here. If you want that job to turn permanent possibly for next year, you can't take off one week of the only 15 weeks you're there.
I'm getting married mid-June and taking 2 days off (should be okay, it's the very end of the year and I don't teach Regents classes), then taking my honeymoon a month later. I think you should honeymoon over the summer too.

I would wait....being a new teacher I don't think that would look good if you took off....we have to wait also for our honeymoon.... you can do something little for right after you are married and then go later on...it will be like you had 2 honeymoons!

hmmm maybe you should wait to book it for the summer. Or you could take what you can get if you really want to do it during the break. Timeshares can be tricky!
