I just updated my resume, I CAN NOT afford to live on my catholic school salary any more. Forget about wedding costs, but we have been looking at houses... OH MY GOD!! I think we may be homeless Seriously, if anyone knows of any districts I should send to, I would really appreciate the help. I have been at my current school for two years and I just cant put up the amount of stress and work they throw at us for the pathetic pay check I get every other week. I am so scared I'll be stuck here forever. I am thankful I have a job, but I really want to be in a public elementary school. Any advice would be appreciated.

Start with the Week in Review every sunday in the NY times.
for the district web links and go one by one. Most only accept online apps.

Good Luck in your search..I must warn you though, over 100,000 teachers are being excessed this year. I am in the same boat as you are, so I know the feeling! Teaching in Catholic school for 9 years, with a masters and I don't even break 40,000!
This is the MLS school website listing. Many districts have job openings posted on their websites.
Most districts have to give notice by mid april if someone is not being asked to return....so def. start watching the times (online as well).

The best thing to do is sub in different districts. I know where I work our district almost always hires subs. Although a lot of special education teachers are transferring to general education because the special ed classes are collapsing due to inclusion. Good luck. I know it must be very hard.
