I am not sure how the S.S. study one is but I don't think there is really any way to study for them. I am sure you will do fine though. Good luck.

from what i hear all the csts at the secondary level are insanely tough! I would ask some people who already took it and see what they suggest. I took the spanish one, so I really have no idea what to tell you. good luck!

well i had to take it in english though and b/c i just want to be totally honest...not to scare you i swear ...out of the 3 exams i had to take in order to get certified, it definitely was the most difficult....i was able to buy a book for that particular exam in borders....i am not sure it helped too much though and when you register they send you a booklet with a few sample questions....it was tough, but you can do it!!!! good luck!!!

the cst exams are the hardest ones.
I was told to look over my textbooks to jar my memory and to check out the study guide that comes with it so I'm familiar with the format.

Good luck!!!!!!!!

I took the English CST and it was HARD! I should've reviewed old Regents exams or something. It has such random facts on it that there is no real way to study. Definitely study the Regents exam and go over all of the major time periods, wars, conflicts and leaders. My friend just took the SS CST and that's what she did...HTH and good luck!

I took the CST in both Spanish and Italian.
I would definitely review Regents review books for Global and USH&G

Good luck!!!!!!!!!

There's a study guide on the NYSTCE website with practice questions.

I have taken the SS one twice. In my opinion, it is hard as hell. They expect you to know everything from each of the 5 SS Standards. I suggest using the regentsprep.org web site and going over old regents and reviewing text books.

I just took the DEC one and there was a lot of World History questions which I was not prepared for ( I havent done that stuff in over 4 years) because I now teach US History.

I would study major time periods and key events that took place.

I took the SS exam a few years back and it definitely was hard. I was lucky b/c I had been teaching for a couple of years at that point and the essay question just happened to be on a subject that I just taught. Definitely check out the Review books that are at Barnes and Nobles or Borders as well as Regents review books. They ask you everything from world history, to american history to the effect of acid rain on the environment (yea I got that one on my test...and was like ***..didn't know I was a science teacher!) Good luck!

I took the Theater exam a few years ago. I was a theater major in college, and had been acting, directing, teaching acting, and taking classes consistently after college. The exam, however, was not at all about acting/directing-- just a few questions -- it was all theater history, lighting, costuming, etc. Areas I hadn't studied in years!
I passed, all I did was study the sample questions they gave me. It was hard, but somehow, I was a good student in college, but it all came back to me. Have faith in yourself! If you know you have this knowledge in you, it will surface. Take the pactice test that they give you. If you do well, I wouldn't stress, but if you don't do well, buy a book, and you'll be fine. HTH

I am not positive, but I think Kaplan makes CST books.

Barnes and Noble has review books

I took the multi-subject one for childhood education but i had bought a Kaplan review book and i remember while i was looking for it I saw specialty test books too. I would check online to see if there is a study book for S.S. It will give you the exact format of the test and the areas that will most likely me covered. The multi subject one really helped me!!! Good luck!!

I also took the special ed one on a whim and I thought that was a joke. The subject that I teach, I found to be much harder.

It all depends on the test.

I took the English won and leaving it I thought I had failed... I studied using the questions that they had on the website and reviewing material from areas I wasn't as familiar with: journalism, theory, etc... I didn't fail, I actually did really well - but it was definitely a difficult exam
