Re: TEACHERS CST Exam
I didn't study for the English and I passed on the first try with no problems. I know that there are some review books, but I wouldn't waste your money.

Re: TEACHERS CST Exam
My sister and I are both SS teachers. One there is really no way to study. The CST is the harderst which *****. You can go on their website and they give you 10 ?'s. People keeps saying there is a CST book for SS you can buy which I dont think there is. We went to Borders and asked and they said they dont make one for SS. They could of been wrong but what we did was read over AP SS books. Hope this helps and good luck!

Re: TEACHERS CST Exam
DH took it in 06 for social studies.
He said make sure you know American history... that's a big focus. He also said to make sure you put in time/effort on the essay because you can't pass without it.
He also asked if you happen to go to hofstra.. because he said that Alan Singer has a great prep course there (that's where he went).
He also said to get a high school regents history study guide.. and that can help you do well with the multiple choice part.
Finance and geography are important too.
Good luck! FM me if you have more questions and I'll pass them on to DH!

Re: TEACHERS CST Exam
i think it depends on the type of test taker you are. my husband is a teaching fellow (the program in NYC to be a teacher) and he had to take the LAST, the multi-subject with NO prior teaching experience or education classes. he passed with fliying colors. he has a law degree, so he figured although the city is certifying him in special ed. he would take that the Social studies CST too, to be dually certified. he passed on the first try with NO problems. granted, he has a law degree, so compared to the Bar, the test is a joke, but he found that if you know the Constitution and major events and terms in US history, you're fine.
these teacher tests are not as bad as people make them seem. i think it's one of those cases of 'you know it, or you don't.' besides taking a few sample tests, you can't really study. that's what i did when i had to take my two CST's and they were fine!!!
