So, I'm going to be substitute teaching, and I have to fill out this RIDICULOUS application.
I have to write an essay - and I chose this topic from the possible choices: The Most Important Qualities of an Outstanding Educator.
I have 2, and I need a third.
I have patience, and professionalism. Can anyone help me think of a third?
(P.S. I have to go to orientation tomorrow, and this is due then!)
TIA!

Exactly, I did incorporate that in both patience and professionalism.
Here's my outline (don't mind bad spelling and grammar, I threw this together in 5 minutes.)
1 – Patience To have patience is to be able to handle any and all situations that may arise in our classroom, and diffuse them with the utmost responsibility, tact, and kindness. Teachers must have patience – throughout our careers, our patience will be tested on a daily basis. Both behaviorally and educationally. We must be able to keep our patience and diffuse any behavioral problems in the classroom, without losing our patience. We must also have patience with those students who don’t understand something – who may need an extra explanation!
2 – Professionalism – To be professional as teachers, we must constantly remind ourselves what it is that we are here to do. We are here first, as educators. Parents rely on us to provide their children with a quality education. Society relies on us to provide our students with the knowledge to pursue any career of their choice. We are here, second, as a roll model, and mentor. Throughout our careers – we will constantly be the only ears some of our students can rely on and trust – and it is our job to be those ears, and help our students not only inside the classroom but with other issues they may face.

i would say creativity. to know how to make boring subjects fun and to create a new way to teach something when the students just arent getting or interested in it.

At this point - they are so desparate for subs - I think I could write an essay on oral sex and they would take me.

Sorry - 09er crashing... hope you don't mind. I subbed before teaching and let me tell you one thing you definitely need - adaptability/flexibility. I dont know what grades you're looking to sub for but one day I was in a kindergarten class and the next I'd be in a high school. Also, things change when you're in the school - you're covering one teacher and then all of a sudden you have a completely different class to take care of. Crazy, although maybe that's just the DOE! Good luck!

Thanks! I've actually taught in a classroom, and subbed before!!! Luckily, in the past, I was generally assigned to English classrooms, because that's what I am certified in.
Unfortunately, I moved to PA, and have had to start the entire certification process over, and there is only 1 district in my area (and by my area, I mean 40 minutes away) that allows subs. It really s*cks!
Wait, it's not unfortunate that I moved, but, it's unfortunate that the PA education dep't is ridiculous, and it doesn't matter that I spent 2 years in NY, it just matters that I didn't have 3!!
