Teachers especially - Need help, quick! NWR, obv.

Original post by AmandaLynn04

So, I'm going to be substitute teaching, and I have to fill out this RIDICULOUS application.

I have to write an essay - and I chose this topic from the possible choices: The Most Important Qualities of an Outstanding Educator.

I have 2, and I need a third.

I have patience, and professionalism. Can anyone help me think of a third?

(P.S. I have to go to orientation tomorrow, and this is due then!)

TIA!

if you can only pick 3 i would take out professionalism
i would put

creativity
patience and dedication

also, JMO but your blurb about patience sounded a little repetitive to me with the words diffuse and situations - sorry

i read tons of cover letters every year and so many sound the same, you really want to make it stand out

differentiating instruction is very important and can go in the 'creative' category; that way, you kill 2 birds with one stone

Sorry - 09er crashing... hope you don't mind. I subbed before teaching and let me tell you one thing you definitely need - adaptability/flexibility. I dont know what grades you're looking to sub for but one day I was in a kindergarten class and the next I'd be in a high school. Also, things change when you're in the school - you're covering one teacher and then all of a sudden you have a completely different class to take care of. Crazy, although maybe that's just the DOE! Good luck!

Thanks! I've actually taught in a classroom, and subbed before!!! Luckily, in the past, I was generally assigned to English classrooms, because that's what I am certified in.

Unfortunately, I moved to PA, and have had to start the entire certification process over, and there is only 1 district in my area (and by my area, I mean 40 minutes away) that allows subs. It really s*cks!

Wait, it's not unfortunate that I moved, but, it's unfortunate that the PA education dep't is ridiculous, and it doesn't matter that I spent 2 years in NY, it just matters that I didn't have 3!!

Good luck! My fingers are definitely crossed for you! My sister moved to North Carolina and she had no problem getting a job teaching - apparently the NY state certification is extremely strong!

Yeah, I edited it around - I was just thinking and typing to quickly. I tend to be redundant sometimes. lol

Thanks! PA and NY share reciprocity - it's the fact that I didn't have 3 years teaching in NY that was the issue.

And, believe it or not - the PA tests were much harder (and there were 5) than the NY tests!

how about HEART, so many people get into teaching for the wrong reasons. In order to be an outstanding educator, I think you need the hear t for it

I could not agree more with you

You get along with others well and understand the importance of collaboration.
