I have an interveiw with the NYC Teaching Fellowship and I need to do a 5 min. lesson plan for any grade, K-5. I was going to do a math lesson, like counting money or something, but I need to have a CLEAR beginning, middle, and end, all within 5 minutes. It will be taught to the other applicants of the program. Since I do not know the first thing about teaching, any advice, suggestions are GREATLY appreciated. Thanks so much!!!

Hi Lauren! Yes, the rolling option. I REALLY want to get in, but I have a feeling it is really competitive. My interview is 10/14, so I will definitely FM you and let you know how it is. With only 5 minutes, I am sure it has to be pretty basic, but there are just so many possibilities of things to teach. A 5 hour interview though, I am pretty nervous!
I was in HS...but I know NYC always wanted us to have an aim on the board...is that the case for elem ed too?
could you make a mock supermarket setup? and then have copies of money?

Maybe a stupid question, but by aim on the board, do you mean a clear direction in which the lesson is going, as displayed on the board?
I don't want to use hand-out manipulatives, because I have heard it could be not such a good idea in some higher-need schools because the children use them as toys and are distracted from the lesson. Fake money was my first choice though.
