Teachers, I have a question.....

Original post by dazies1011

My son's teacher, for the second time, put the wrong grade in on my son's report card. That's right 2nd time!!!! She said once again that she corrected it and it'll show up on the next report card. HHMMMM that story sounds familiar . Like when she did this the first time.
She now just gave him detention for not having a pen and since he didnt have a pen with him on friday, he had a pencil, he didnt do his homework. He was afraid to write his homework down witha pencil. Now yes he should have called someone to get the homework and do it over the weekend but, she shouldn't scare the children into not using a pencil to write down the assignment.
Like I wrote to her people make mistakes, even when doing report cards.
This lady took 2 WEEKS to return my email the first time around!!!! She comes off to me as a B I T C H!!!! No offense to any teachers, as I am a preschool teacher but, I have to make sure that I am on my toes with 17 2-3 yr olds she should do the same. It is a part of our jobs.

Sorry had to vent alittle

I dont know as long as the kid at least had a pencil what the hell should she care as long as he writes down the assignment. I think if this kid at 13 is affraid to write an assignment down with a pencil, this teacher may not exactly be the nicest person & lets face it sometimes teachers single out kids & use them as an example & thats not cool. Im not saying all teachers but some do!

Sounds like this teacher is a little nutty... is she super old? I feel like the old ones lose it. I attempt to be very strict about writing utensils at the beginning of the year and even tell the kids they have a zero for the day if they're unprepared but I'd never say they can ONLY write in pen. That's insane. You ever see a left handed kid writing with a pen - they usually have ink smudged all over their page. At age 13, you'd *hope* they're starting to get responsible, but come on - they're 13. I cant tell you how many school bags I help clean out each week since these kids dont know anything about organization. Some one needs to *teach* them how to be prepared and responsible. Chris - I'm sure you're doing your part. It's as much of the responsibility of the teacher to make sure the kids are prepared as it is the parent.

I would check her out on ratemyteachers.com - see how other kids and parents feel about her. And DONT feel bad going to the principal about her with the report card issue - if I werent doing my job I would expect someone to tell on me - why should she get away with it?

It's hard being super mom and super bride to be, isnt it Chris?

Tell Taylor come to my school, I'll be nice to him!

Hey Chris,

If you find yourself not getting anywhere with your son's teacher then I would take the matter up with the AP. Sometimes, it's said to say but some teachers have a personality conflict with the children they have in their class. Or, like you said some teachers can have a nasty disposition. I would try one more time to deal with her one-to-one to deal with your child's particular situation..

By having consequences for their ability to meet responsibilites, you are teaching them to be responsible. How else would you teach someone responsibility than to have someothing happen when they are not responsible?

Sorry to hear about your situation. Perhaps you should speak to the teacher about taking your sons situation up with him also. I tend to find that when there is an issue between a student and myself, going to the parents or just to the student doesnt usually work. You might want to consider meeting with his teacher AND HIM. I sometimes feel that there may be an underlying circumstance that takes place in the classroom that your unaware of. If you had the opportunity to speak with your son and his teacher together you might find out more that what is going on on the surface.

Well I just read her email from today and she said she made another mistake!!!! She was wrong about his 1st marking period grade that it was what it was the 1st time. UUUMMM This lady is wacky I called guidance today and had to leave a message. She told me to do this as well in her email, so I'll try again tomorrow. Im upset now with her saying one thing and doing another thing once again as far as the 1st marking period. I'm going to have to make sure he never gets her again!!!!
She explained about his pen/pencil situation, bla bla bla. I totally understand about organization, I am the queen of that but, when Taylor is at school there is nothing I can do about it. So I guess I'll just have to make sure he has a pen everyday I drop him off.

Yes it is hard to be super mom and super bride, but, thats life!
You should come and work in Nassau I'm right on the border of Queens, Mike can drive you in

Re: Teachers, I have a question.....

I teach 9th and 10th graders and If they have something to write with. I think one of my classes (32 boys and 2 girls) had 5 students who had nothing to write with! Thats part of the job she should get over it. I wish that was my biggest problem lol.
