Im 'sorry you have to deal with such an unprofessional teacher!!!
I'm sorry but if she had such an issue with the fact that he didn't have a pencil (and obviously she did since she sent him to detention) then she should have CONTACTED you and let you know about it first and spoke to you about the importance of having a pencil, etc. and THEN if it happened again, she could have given him detention.
But I mean SERIOUSLY....she sounds like she has it 'out' for your son a little bit..ya know what I mean?

Re: Teachers, I have a question.....
Honestly, I would say something to her. Set up a meeting with her and discuss her protocol and guidelines with her. Ask her to provide you with WRITTEN information on classroom rules and what type of behavior warrants 'punishment' (aka detention). DO NOT ask for this information ahead of time--you don't want her to prepare something to cover her butt-ya know what I mean??
If she is not responsive, you have EVERY RIGHT to go to the powers that be and say something!!! Remember, the parents have THE RIGHTS!!!
Good luck!!!

That is terrible that this teacher is doing this to your son. I would talk to her and get it in writing the protocol for the classroom, this way she cannot harass your son anymore...I hate that they are children...But its sad to say that sometimes the adults are worse then the kids!!!

how old is your son?
13. His school is Jr./Sr. high together. So this is all new and stressful for him. It is his first year in a new school so cut him some slack, not alot but, give them warrings..... I know some people might not think preschool is hard but, IT IS!!!! and we have to remember that it can be a childs 1st experience and cut them alittle slack.

Re: Teachers, I have a question.....
Have you had contact with this teacher before? As a teacher, the only reason, besides being unprofessional, that I could think for not contacting you back might be previous experiences. I am assuming this is not the case, but I know that I hesitate to call parents who are going to pick a fight with me or who fail to see the wrong that their child has done. I doubt this is the case with you, but that would be the only reason I could think of (again besides being unprofessional) that someone might not get back to you right away.

I have spoken to her the 1st time this happened but I was nice about it. Then since I was unable to get her to the phone when I called the school I had to email her. Today I finally get one back and she tells me she messed up on his 2 marking period grade but, doesnt respond to his 1st marking period one . so now I am mad and even more with the detention thing. Even though I do understand he could have called someone, if he had the number, for the homework.

That is frustrating. If you can, explain to her your frustration and try to hear her side of the story. I always find that once both parties are able to communicate clearly thing seem to be better than they might originally appear at first.

If your son is 13 years old, he needs to learn how to be responsible. If he claims he was scared to write down the hw in pencil, then that means he should be scared enough to always bring a pen to class. I think it might seem harsh of the teacher, but I am on her side. Kids need to learn how to be responsible. My junior high was a rude awakening as well, but I learned from my mistakes...and trust me, I know it *****, but it really is for his own good.
As far as messing up the grades for a second time, thats completely her fault and she should be more careful...you probably should speak to the principal about that. ESPECIALLY if she never corrected the 1st mistake.
regarding the pen situation, I work at a school where I have to beg the kids to bring 'something'...'anything' to write with. and these kids are as old as 22 years old. It may seem harsh now, but your son will learn to be responsible... and not that I am trying to blame your son or anything, but like you mentioned he really should have called up a friend and gotten the homework. There is no excuse for that.
I am sorry but I went to a catholic school and was taught my nuns.

It's ok but, when you become a mom you'll understand more of my piont of view.
I have bothsides of view since I am a preschool teacher, it may not be as harsh but, to the kids it is. When you go from 1 class a day to 7-8, it is pretty hard, plus when you have a teacher that you might be scared of you do forget. I had a teacher like that and it isnt fair or nice to do to kids. Just like in the work field if your boss doesnt help you with encourgement and isnt nice to you, you fell you arent doing a good job most people end up slacking. You always need boosts of encouragement instead of being told what you are doing wrong. So with me saying this maybe he wont forget his pen if his teacher encouraged instead of discouraged.

That I don't necessarily agree with - by 13 students should have some sense of responsibility. I am not going to say to my students, good job remembering your writing utensils - it is expected that they adhere to this responsibility by then. I do, however, agree with your being upset about the teacher's inability to communicate with you in a timely manner.

I understand it is his responsibility but, you should understand that EVERYONE is irresponsible in their own way. I asked my parents for 1 item for their childs art project and most of them forgot. 1 thing I asked for and they as adults couldnt do it. As a teacher she should give a warrning that if you forget it again they he will pay the price but, as a teacher that wants to teach shouldnt have students not learn for a day becasue he or she doesnt have a pen and is afraid to use his pencil because she my yell at him in front of other kids. And we all know teachers, not all, do that to kids and that is wrong. My son is shy and if you do anything to him to make you not trust him you will lose him as a great kid to have. Respect works both ways.

I understand that you feel that you need to protect your child. This is understandable. But in the real world, people are not always very nice. It is a matter of opinion. I take it you are not into the whole 'tough love' thing? lol. Also, try to remember your son is no longer a child. He is a teen...amazing how fast they grow up huh?

I'm in to tough love, my son was never spoiled or anything. Alittle more sheltered since I raised him on my own but, never one of those kids you want to smack in a store cause they are throwing a fit. Yes they do grow up too fast and I am not saying my son is innocent but, right now I am being the mom and not the teacher. Bottom line she needs to get her act together with his grades and her messing up not once but, TWICE. And she should have said to my son that you can make it up but, next time you will get detention. People make mistakes and we learn from them but, she didnt as we can tell. I shouldnt be so forgiving with her since she wasnt with my son but, I am a better person then her and gave her a second chance and she messed up again!!! So after all this stuff I think I may just go straight to the principal. I'll see how I feel after I cool down.

lol. ur such a cute mom. I wish my mom would have stood up for me every now and then. lol. Dont worry things will be ok. See how u feel tomorrow, and if you still feel that passionate about it then bring it up to the principal, and see what they have to say.

I know I'll be calmer in alittle bit and I'll get down to the bottom of it before the week is over, if I can get ahold of her . But thank you for listening and the complimant of the mommy thing. Being a mom, especially a single mom, is the TOUGHEST job. You'll find out soon enough
