I am a certified teacher (general and spec. ed birth-6th grade) I grduated in May 2008 and just cannot find a job I am currently subbing and its not bad but its not every day and I have no medical insurance. I would like to have a baby in a few years and I need to have insurance before doing that. I am thinking bout giving up my dream of being a teacher and going back to school to be an x-ray tech or something else in the medical field where I will actually be able to get a job. If I end up doing that instead of getting my masters will I automatically lose my teaching certification after 5 years? I dont want to just throw away all the hard work i put in to become a teacher. I dont know what to do! Help!!!!!!!

Re: Teachers I have a question
I'm a special ed teacher but I don't work in a school. I teach early intervention. I go to the child's home before they are old enough to go to school. I work through several different agencies and they fill up my schedule as much or as little as I want. Are you ABA trained? They will train you for free if you want too. It's really a great job-great money too! No benefits but the $ is so good you can do your own insurance. My FH put me on his a few years ago as 'domestic partner' so I don't have to worry about that but not all companies allow that. FM me if you want more info.

Crashing...don't give up your dream of becoming a teacher...number one it's your dream and number two it's no guarantee that if you change your career path there will be a job there either...and you will have spent more $$ to get eduacted or trained for that new job that may not exist! So you might as well stick to what you know you love and want to do...it was 4 years before I got a position that I was happy with so sometimes it takes a while for things to happen. I subbed for a year and then I went into the city and taught for 3 years, then took a part-time job in a district here on the island. The following year I became full-time and I've been there ever since. Keep trying and check out private schools too...there is no money there, but at least the medical coverage and the schedule is
