Hi, I noticed there seems to be a lot of teachers on here so I was hoping someone could help explain something. I already have my provisional certification in History and am almost finished my masters in Literacy. I never took my CST in history bc they told me I could put it off until I was applying for my permanent certificate. My question is would I also be applying for a provisional certification in Literacy and not be required to take the CST in Literacy yet? The reason I'm asking is becaues I do not have the 2 years teaching requirement since I'm still searching for a job, but I'd still like to get certified because I am hoping to find a reading teacher position for Sept. And I'd like to put the CST off until after the wedding, but I wanna make sure I can be certified without the CST. Sorry so long. TIA!!

Re: Teachers-need certification help
I took the CST for elementary ed and then the video to become perm. certified. I got my masters afterwards in literacy and I found out that I need the CST in literacy as well. I'm not exactly sure how that works as well....hmmm...

Re: Teachers-need certification help
Ok I think I figured it out bc I was just reading up on it on their site. They got rid of Provisional Certification so now you get an Initial Certification and yes you do have to take the CST in order to get certified from now on. Ahh looks like I'll be taking it in Feb in case I fail. I hate the new requirements.

Re: Teachers-need certification help
you definitely need the CST in both areas. If you take both CSTs together, you won't have to apply for an initial certificate - you will probably just be able to apply for permanent in both areas (Unless something changed - this is exactly what I did)

Re: Teachers-need certification help
I think I just missed things... when I finished my masters, I got permanent certification in special ed.... I have a provisional in El. Ed and have taken the CST and just submitted my video and going to submit my stuff for permanent certification.. this process never seems clear to anyone.. they should make it much easier.. it's too confusing!
