Teachers or guidance counselors - please help...

Ever have one of those days when you feel like you care more about your students' success than they do!? And you wonder why do I bother caring so much?

I'm just having one of those crappy disappointing days, and keep trying to remind myself not to take it personally...lol.

Ok, thanks just needed to vent!

I am not a teacher, but have many friends that are and heard them talk about this.

I can totally relate....you give your all & your best effort & then to have kids 'not care' & just going through the motions (at times) can be disapointing.

I had a rough day today too w/ kids being especially wild and noisy. I feel beat.

You need to come to terms with the fact that, really, that's every day! I'm not a cynic at all, it's just that kids (I teach high school) do not see the long-term scenario; they live in the moment. They don't understand how what they do today impacts tomorrow. I try not to get preachy with my students, but to enjoy the time we spend together in the classroom. Sometimes I do give in to the temptation, though, and talk to them about goals and how to achieve them.

Kids who REALLY don't seem to care at all are mostly depressed, on drugs, going through something rough, or all three. If you can't get to the bottom of what's going on, just let them know you're there.

Keep your chin up!!!

Thanks! My students are in college - its amazing, you'd think they'd care about their careers/future plans at this point! One day at a time I guess...:) But its good to know others have had the same days sometimes!
