TEACHERS!! QUESTION ABOUT THANKSGIVING!!

What kind of party do you have for Thanksgiving, if any??

I want to start planning my Thanksgiving party. I would like to do the traditional turkey, potatoes, stuffing, real family like thing.(It would work well in my classroom ) But I was thinking maybe that would be too much with Thanksgiving the next day. Kinda get sick of turkey. Then I thought maybe a dessert party with pies, cookies, ice cream sundaes. What is everyone thinking or planning on doing?????

I don't want to do another basic junk food party like Halloween was!!

Jaime only advice is be careful when it comes to food. I just happened to find out that the French teacher that uses my room 2 periods a day has a student that is VERY VERY VERY allergic to anything dairy, he can he have a reaction to it being in the air in the room. I have a student the period before who is hypoglycemic and needs to eat a snack (Very smart planning on my schools part ) so I now have to make my kid eat in the hallway and dispose of his garbage somewhere else. I can't risk making the other kid sick, way too scary. I have never seen as many kids with food allergies as I had the last couple of years, so just be careful with that.

If you have contact with a student, I believe you are able to see what allergies they have. I have a list of all food allergies in my school since I see all the students.

I don't personally do parties with the kids since I teach music, but I know that most classroom teachers have the kids do a study on Thanksgiving that is geared towards the appropriate age group and then each student is responsible for bringing in one food from the traditional feast.

Also, I remember making crafts and what not when I was kid that mimicked the ones they made back when the first Thanksgiving was held. I remember braiding leather and makeing faux leather out of a paper bag, then we used that 'leather' bag and braided leather to make a pouch to take home our projects and goodies from the day.

Thanks Jamie!! Luckily I only have one child with an allergy to fish. And there no fish on Thanksgiving!! Everyone else it in the clear! Every teacher at the place I work have alist of allergies for every child in the place, incase one visits another room one day!!

No fish in Thanksgiving don't tell that to my DH, he think there should be calamari and all that other stuff that I can't stomach (I don't like fish at all) served at every holiday!!!!

We used to have a big thanksgiving feast at work where the teachers were assigned a dish, the entire school would come together and eat together just like the 'first thanksgiving.' We havent done that in a couple of years though.

Instead, I have been bringing in fruits for them, cutting them up and sharing as they are dressed as pilgrims and indians. Gets the sharing point across and everything is all natural so it works out well. The kids seem to love this! I usually make some kind of cookies for dessert for an extra special something.
