I over-prepare for interviews.

One question that threw me off was, 'What do you do for children who never do their homework?'

Another good question was, 'How do children learn how to read?'

Another one was, 'How do you differentiate instruction for the top 10% of your class?'

Differentiated Instruction

Also they asked about Balanced Literacy and how I would implement all of the components in my classroom...particularly shared reading

One good question I got was, 'Even the best teachers have lessons that don't always go the way they want them to. Tell me about such a lesson, and what you did about it.'

I told her that I collaborated with colleages for ideas and we worked together on how to make the lesson more student-centered so that when I taught it again two periods later, it was a good lesson. Any time you can mention working together with colleagues, you should!

Thanks ladies!! You're all so helpful. I'm compiling a list of things to o over before the interview and I'm going to add this stuff onto that list!!

If anyone else has other questions or info that might be useful for me, let me know!!

I was asked:
What would I do for a child struggling w/reading comprehension?
What steps have I taken towards my professional development?
I don't know why I can't remember!?!?!?

I think they asked me:
Tell me about your hardest day of teaching....

Classroom management!
I was also asked where I saw myself in 5 years. Also what makes me different from other teachers...and about special ed inclusion (but I don't know if they're doing that as much in NY)...
Good luck!!!

What is the most important thing you do on the first day of school?

Differentiating is HUGE! Definiatly have an idea of how you would differentiate for your lower kids as well as the higher kids.

Always try to relate back to your past experiences. They seem to love that. :)

I hated interviewing. It was so nerve racking. Good luck!! I hope it works out for you!

They asked me how I would set up centers in my classroom. Also they asked what would I tell parents at Open School Night.

Re: Teachers: What questions were you asked on your interviews?

Tell us about yourself...take this time to REALLY brag about yourself (in a good way of course), for a long time I would just tell basic information, but this is the time to make yourself shine and let them know about all of your experience!!!
How do you differentiate instruction?
How do you use technology in your classroom?
How do you use reading throughout the curriculum?
Tell us about a time that you had a disagreement with a coworker and what did you do to resolve it.
